How do people get As consistently without studying?

I'm just curious because I hear a lot of people saying they have never studied before and get straight As in difficult classes. I get good grades too but since going to 11th grade I have always had to study. I've always had to work really hard for As. Are these people lying or do they just have amazing memory?

From my experience, grades do not measure how smart or gifted you are as well as they measure how well you understand the expectations of each teacher and the work you put into meeting those expectations.

A lot of people tend to either lie about or underexaggerate the length of time the study. I’ve caught myself doing it several times. I don’t think it’s really possible to not study and just show up to the test and get 100%, unless it’s something you’ve already learnt, i don’t see how it’s possible.

Depends upon what you mean by “study”. If you are talented in a particular area, you may only need to “study” the minimum amount of time it takes to do your homework. Other people need to “study” hours to understand the concept and complete the homework.

In both cases, they are “studying”, just not the same amount.

In some classes, it is not an issue of “memory”. They just absorb the concepts faster. Some classes it is a matter of “memory” (vocabulary, dates and events for social studies, scientific names for biology, etc.). Some people are faster at memorizing.

If the class consists of conceptual material, like Calculus, Physics, Chemistry or Statistics, I don’t have to study because I absorb the information by listening in class and then solidify that info by doing that night’s homework. Then I don’t have to study before the test day.

Now if the class is something like History, Psychology, Biology or anything that requires sheer memorization, then yes I will crack open a book to study.
