I was wondering if the amissions officers even consider your english and science scores, b/c i was looking online at Pitt and it says they only look at critical reading and math on ALL tests... and what about the writing portion?

That is an interesting question, I applied to UPitt and got accepted (yay) and my GPA was low (3.1 cumulative) and my ACT was a 29 Composite.

A 29 Composite sounds fairly decent but here’s how it broke down:
English 30
Reading 34
Math 23 (worst subject for me)
Science 28
Combined Eng + Essay 30

So I can imagine that they look either very deeply, or shallowly at your scores. If they looked very deeply they would notice that me being a highly aspirated law student also means I only require basic comprehension in mathematics and my reading and english scores are sufficient. Or they look too shallowly and say “Hey a 29 ACT, 94th percentile composite, IN.”

Either way, I can tell you one thing, UPitt has taken care of me the best as an accepted applicant compared to other universities I’ve been accepted to. If you do get accepted, it will be meaningful with the letters, packets, and portfolio’s they send, you’ll definitely get an idea if Pitt is your best fit.

so if i applied and my weighted avg is a 95.5 and I get a 24 on my ACT (composite) do you think I would have a good shot at getting accepted?

@ jbar i think 24 is a little low. if i were you i would get a review book (i used the Real Act Review book) and take it again. I went from a 27 to a 31 with it.

asalahuddin… do you think I would gt into Pitt as a psychology major with a 4.0 gpa and a 24 composite?
