Hello, all. I am an English buff who consistently scores 700+ in CR and writing with 12 essays. However, my math score is embarrassingly low (500-600 range). I really want to get it to the 650-700 range. I bought the Gruber's SAT Workbook and read through the strategies and the "math refresher" but it is of no help! What should I do!?

the thing about math is that the only real way to improve is to practice. PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE until you have carpal tunnel and can’t look at the letter x without puking.

take any of the concepts and find as much practice as you can. Do every single problem in the Gruber SAT wkbk (i don’t know how many there are, i’ve never seen the Gruber book) and then buy the Dr. Chung wkbk, which i’ve heard is very good.

I’ve never had problems with math, but even for me, the only way to get better at math is to practice and do as many problems as possible

good luck.

Right now, I’m scoring in the 650 range. I’m doing the BB math sections with Khan Academy, and I listen to how he does and explains the questions and the answers. I think I’m slowly getting better, as he explains very well, but only time will tell. I highly recommend that you do the BB with the Khan Academy videos to improve your math score.

Also, could you give tell me how I could get my Reading and Writing score constantly in the 750+? Are there any workbooks or strategies that really help you?

A lifetime of reading has paid off for CR and writing. But, I feel that some of the guides on CC are very helpful. If you take a spin around, you should find them. (Sparknotes for writing… seven deadly sins, etc. Silverturtle’s guide)

^for some reason I find Silverturtle’s guide too hard, and just cant comprehend it, as he does use a lot of complex grammatical terms in it.

There are no secret strategies or tips that’ll make you score in the 700’s in math. The only thing you can depend on is practice. Solve everything you can get your hands on. The questions become repetitive over time, and you’ll be doing them without much thought.

Do you have the official SAT study guide?

I suggest you do all the math sections there. It’s really a lot of practice and checking your wrong answers afterwards. That’s what helped me. I went from a low 600 to a 700. :)

i am terrible at cr help me boys i got my exam in one and half weeks time

practice practice practice practice practice practice practice practice…that’s how…its that simple. I scored a 490 in march of my junior year and 720 in October of my senior year so I know how tedious endless hours of practice problems can be but that is whats necessary.
