Unlike most CCers my biggest weakness is the math section. The first time I took the SAT I got a 580 and the second time I scored a 590. My writing and critical reading scores are much better and I feel the only thing holding me back from a great SAT score is math. I'm shooting for a 650 or higher. So basically I want to know:

Is there anyway who scored low in math like me and improved a lot?
And how did you accomplish that?
How much time did it take?
What books did you use?

I first used the barrons math book, but my score barely improved. I got like a 610 on a practice test. I have gruber's and I used that a little too, but it seems like no matter what I do the last 5 or 6 problems on each math section are hard for me.

The math tested on the SAT is pretty basic and there's always a simple approach to solve each and every one of them. The method I've been using to improve my math (it's been working pretty well) is taking practice test after practice test (collegeboard only) and then going over the problems that I miss.

I'm not like you, but I'd say that you must be missing some little concepts for you to get that many wrong. ALSO, the MOST important thing that boosted my score was this thought about Math: I know how to do every single problem on the test. I've practiced. So, if I pay attention, I should do fine.

it seems like the test prep books don't really go over the "puzzle" type problems. should i just go over them when i come across them in a practice test? god i hate the math section.
