How do the scholarships work?

S2 wishes to apply to WUSTL, but will not be able to attend without a substantial merit scholarship. He was looking at the scholarship book and noticed that most of the larger scholarships are specific to majors. Here is my question: Since he does not yet know if he will major in Econ, Physics or Business - any thoughts on how to approach the applications? I am assuming that if a person is granted a scholarship for major X, and then changes to major Y or Z that the scholarship goes away?????????

The largest number of merit awards each year are not specific to a major. These programs are the Danforth (full & half tuition), Ervin & Rodriguez (full & half tuition plus an annual $2,500 stipend). The Danforth is by nomination only, the other two have application info on the WashU website. Once awarded, major specific awards stay with the student even if there is a change of major.
