I keep getting rejected to these summer programs and scholarships. Each time I get a rejection my mom screams at me and says that I'm stupid and not good enough, and that she's ashamed to be my mother when so many other people at our school get awards and scholarships.

I feel like a little bit of my hope died every time I get rejected.

By the way, it's something like 15 rejections now so it's not exactly a first time thing.

I think I take it pretty well, really. I expect it. I’m really surprised when I get accepted to anything.
(It’s not like summer programs actually matter in the long run anyway, so I’m really not sure why your mom cares so much about whether you get into them.)

Eat food. Watch shows on Netflix. Repeat.
I feel ya though, what are these summer programs for? Maybe you should try a different type of camp that might be more suited to you and what you’ve done.
Oh, and remember that your mom is just trying to make you successful, even if she can’t express it the right way sometimes…

Honestly I have reached the point of not caring with most things. Eventually you will start getting a combination of good and bad news and the truth is that nobody gets everything. For every three rejections I get like one acceptance/scholarship. I am assuming you are like most CCers and applying to very selective programs, not everybody gets in (most don’t). Don’t let your mom get to you and understand that there is a little bit of luck involved. Also find something that you can do to relax, my thing is knitting, a friend of mine bakes, another makes duct tape flowers…we all have our own thing.

Supersmartguy- sorry to hear about your troubles, but honestly, I really don’t think summer programs mean a thing. My son and several of his classmates got into superb schools and never spent a second on a college campus for summer programs. I think that if you have a great GPA, test scores, essays, and LOR, you should so fine anywhere without these expensive programs.

You are not a failure for not getting the scholarships or programs you applied for. I will speak about scholarship portion. Scholarships are hard to get, especially the national ones. If you get rejected for one scholarship, you just have to brush it off and keep applying for more. If I had stopped applying for scholarship because of one rejection, I would not be where I am at today. I have applied for probably over twenty scholarships, and I’ve received a few. I’m still going to apply for more because I just don’t quit. That’s what you need to do. You can’t discouraged, and if you keep being motivated and determined, I believe that you will get some scholarships.

I don’t even consider not getting a scholarship to be a rejection. “Rejection” is just too strong a word. It’s like saying you lost the lottery.

Hey guys, I was wondering how good off I am for college.
I have a 4.8 GPA weighted
4 GPA unweighted
Sat scores are 1610
Class rank is 22 out of 364

Elitehan…you need to start your own thread. Your question has nothing to do with this thread. That said, your SAT is lowish. Colleges may think that your school has serious grade inflation. ARe you going to retest?
