Circumvent HR whenever possible. No better advice for a successful career.

I got rejected from UVA this year and it was a big blow. I thought it was somewhat of a reach for me (2020 SAT, 4.0 GPA) but I had great recs from important people in the Charlottesville community and a LOT of extracurriculars. I am instead going to another Virginia school in the fall, and I’m starting to think that maybe UVA isn’t for me after all.

Just remember that you applied to each of your colleges for a reason. Wherever you end up going, you’ll find something that will interest you and people that will become your close friends.

If not, you can always transfer!

Being told repeatedly that you are a failure is wrong, so don’t discredit your accomplishments and goals. I’m sorry that you Mom has few parenting skills on which to draw when she’s frustrated. Do your best. Find a college away from home and build your own life. Once you are away, distance yourself from the negative world and focus on building positive relationships.

Don’t worry about it. Michael Jordan was cut from his high school basketball team… was he not? Rejection is an inevitability. Use it as fuel to prevent being rejected in the future…
In short: You win some, you lose some.
