Because when I come home with a backpack full of homework the last thing I do is it cause I can never seem to focus on it until it is 9pm and i mentally force myself. So how do those people in all the honors and AP classes maintain a high GPA while doing all those EC's? What is their secret?

THIS IS ME!!! I’m very, very organized, but not focused. One thing to do is start your homework the moment you get home, so you don’t have a chance to get distracted. Or take a nap, so you’re recharged enough to focus on boring hw and some time has passed. Stay in school or at the library so you HAVE to do the hw - there is no other choice. Do your homework for a set amount of time - 8pm to 11pm say - then wake up at 5am to do the rest.

watch sc2 streams and do hw.
do a few problems, watch a few minutes, and etc.
if i can’t focus, i turn my music really really low

i don’t start hw until 5 pm. i get back from school around 3:45. 1.25 hours WASTED everyday. sigh. i blame myself.

On days like today I have science olympiad from 2:45-4:45ish after school, then I have tennis practice from 6-8 later tonight. When I get back tonight I will have no choice other than to do my work. My schedule is like this a few days out of the week, yet I get pretty good grades.

I’m an overachiever with great grades but the attention span of a five-year-old, lol. The way I focus is that I don’t finish all the homework for one subject in one sitting. For example, when I’m studying AP Stats and find that I’m zoning out and not comprehending anything after 20 minutes, I switch to honors grammar or art. Once I get tired of that, I either go on to another subject or back to AP Stats. It works great for me. It helps me keep focused and prevents me from getting too bored. I have a little checklist that I keep, too, so when I’m done studying completely for one subject I check it off. Not only does that help me keep track of everything, but checking it off gives me a sense of accomplishment as well :)

Of course, if you’re really tired when you come home from school you could always take a 15-30 minute break. Just make sure you’re not doing something really engaging (like playing a video game) or you’ll get really distracted and won’t want to do any studying at all.

When my brain is about to sizzle, I listen to a song, eat a snack, or play the piano for a bit. Washing my face helps me too, if I’m about to fall asleep!

Thanks for the advice. I’ll definitely put it to use

Yep! Rinse your face with COLD water. Or go outside for a jog :)
