how do you get rid of slump posture

Do u not see that there is a question that u r missing in post #16. U said what Dutch average height was (who cares) and so I asked u what Swedish average was. I dont understand whats so hard to miss?

Oh .. 5'8'' or so overall. 5'9'' for ages 16-24.

do yoga, it's awesome

Yeah I have that problem with my shoulders too. I've just been trying to pull them back more as I walk (at least when I am aware of it) lately. For some reason I have this feeling whenever I do that that I am actually pulling it back too far and thus it just looks stupid. But then I'll look at myself in a reflection somewhere and see that I actually look normal.

You can't judge properly because of the way the eyes are positioned :/

Just make a good concious effort to improve posture.. About getting taller, I have no information regarding this. I dare say that 5'8'' is about the perfect height for girls.

this mite be a dumb moment but what do u mean u dare say that 5'8" is about perfect height

Well, I meant that I like girls that are around that height.

do it the dancers' way. raise your hands above your head, clap your hands together and press your palms against the wall. you should be at least 20cm away from the wall. really painful thou./

YES!!!!!!!! LOL

what the ....? just sit up straight! it's not that hard!
lol, j/k. i've always had good posture. my director makes fun of me for it. he calls me the grand duchess of waltz posture.
but the thing about having good posture is to make it a conscious effort. you can do all the weights in the world and have it have no effect, whereas if you constantly remind yourself about standing up straight, you will.
this may sound very stupid and corny but it works: imagine there's a string attached to the top of your head. and there's someone pulling you up.
worked for me when i was 8 and in ballet class. i went from the worst, most ungraceful kid to not quite as bad. and now, whenever i have to do dancing for theatre, i usually get made an example.
god, do i sound like a goodygoody or what? eh, whatever. make of it what you will.

i used to have bad posture but i just started thinking about it all the time while i was walking and now i have good posture. the deadlifts helped quite a bit too.

Is the Shoulders Back thing good for maintaining a good posture? I've been trying to deal with this issue for years. Took therapy for it, nothing. Tried to remind myself when I walk to walk straight and that doesn't help because when I do remember I slowly start to lose conscious and revert back to slumping even though I'll remind myself minutes later (it's like a cycle that gets me nowhere; i've been doing this for a year couple of years now). I acknowledge the fact that I do sit a lot and don't do much sports any more but I feel so much pain just trying to straighten out my back. Heck sometimes when I just lay down on my bed it hurts my back. The product looks like it may be able to help I just want to know if it's good for all purposes or just for horse riders.

now i really know why i kept doing ballet...

Posture is so important, & for those of us with bad postures it's hard to remember the correct position.

When you are studying, having the book down so that your neck is down to read is the worst thing. Spending hours slumped over reinforeces the slump posture. Prop the book up on a desk so that your neck & shoulders are in a neutral position.

What's worked for me (finally!!) is strengthening my core & yoga. If your abs are strong, that takes alot of the pressure off your shoulder & neck, and makes it easier for correct posture.

I know I have terrible posture. Sometimes I'll just try to stand straight but it never lasts long. Maybe I should try some of the suggestions on here.
I think that maybe the shoes you wear could have a lot to do with it too...

wear heels, it helps

heels? don't women usually wear heels?

Here's a guide to know correct posture:

Stand with the back of your heels touching the wall. Your butt, shoulders, and back of head should also touch the wall. That's good posture right there.
