How do you guys balance hanging out with family and friends over break?

<p>Saw this on another forum and thought it would be interesting to see people's experiences.</p>

<p>Even though I try to balance the two, my parents tend to grumble about me hanging out with my friends--although I think they mostly gripe about it if I spend a lot of money or if I have schoolwork I should be doing. However, I try to hang out with my friends in moderation to try to keep in mind that I need to spend time with my family too. </p>

<p>I go to college only a couple of hours away from where I live, so I get to come home once a month or so--so it's not like my parents don't see me at all. But I guess I understand their wanting me to spend more time with them.</p>

<p>What about everyone else?</p>

<p>Well winter break is a special case since I won't have anything that I "should" be doing, so the parents will be more lenient. My parents usually don't complain as long as I'm back at a reasonable hour. I don't spend loads of time with friends, so they don't miss too much time with me during breaks unless I go to an all day concert or on a camping trip or something.</p>
