I remmeber last year I forgot my key sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo many times. As soon as I wake up, i sometimes forget ot bring the key and the door locks behind me...it sucks having to wake up roomies cuz I forgot my key. Or you go and take a shower and forget that you left your key in your pants or something. Do you guys use one of those key necklace thingies? Any tips about how to keep remmebering the key?

i had a little hook by the door and made it habit to put my key there the instant i walked in, and then grabbed it as i walked out the door. i got locked out a lot and had no roommate, so i had to have a system

get a big key chain or always hang your key/keys right by the door

that way, always placing it there, it’ll be easier to remember and become second nature

I leave my keeys in my pocket with my wallet, and since I carry my wallet with me all the time I take my keys at the same time.

i never thought i'd read something like this.. lol. what did you do with your keys at home? that sounds like a viable option. i keep my keys on a lanyard that goes around your neck... just like i have since i got my first house key when i was little.

My sister has one of those lanyards I think? You know with a key ring at the end so she'd just wear it around her neck during the day or put it in her pocket or on somethiing she'd see in the morning

I never really had a problem with remembering, but I had my key on this small keychain and one night coming home from the club it slipped out of my pocket in the cab, and I didnt even realize it until the cab had long since left. When I got a new key after that I always kept it this zipped up compartment of my wallet, and only took it out to unlock the door and put it back in.

my laziness system works wonders

before I go to bed, I'll leave out the clothes I was wearing with the keys and stuff still in the pockets, and when I get up I just switch everything from the pockets to whatever I wear the next day

Hanging keys around their necks is for nerds. I just leave my key on the lock it is supposed to open.

And you just leave it there when you leave your room?

Well......firstly you can always get the lock out service so don't worry. Secondly....many folks at my school don't lock....so that is an option. My first roommate lost 2 keys in the first weeks of school and we never locked ever....and that is all I will say. Don't worry.

Is it safe to keep your room unlocked? Did you keep your valuable stuff locked within the room? I would be very worried if I just left my laptop in an unlocked room for example.

That why they make motion detectors....

How many dorms have motion detectors?

I guess you could worry but I don't know of any thefts in the area where I live. Firstly entry to the dorm is secure and secondly I am certain your computer is covered by insurance and why would folks who already have a computer want yours??? I think your greates worry would be large sums of cash or jewelry and you can get a lockbox but I have not heard of any problems. I am certain there are plenty of folks who lock but I know just as many who don't. One does not see random public wandering the halls.......you must have an ID to enter and it must be for that living facility and guests must be accompanied and show ID also.

Yea, but I think if I'm going to bring my ID everywhere, I'll just stick my key to that and carry both.

You can always put your key in your computer bag or your messenger bag. Once you develop a pattern it will be okay.....if you are not used to driving and tracking a key then really it is the same as a subway token/pass it just become second nature.

Well, this only works for a girl, but I always keep my keys in my purse, since I take it everywhere I go. Is there something else you always have to have when you leave that you're already used to taking? When I was younger, I kept it in my backpack, since the only time I need the key, was coming home from school. You really just have to get used to having it.

After getting in trouble for leaving homework and textbooks at home, I taped a note to my door which said, "Do you have everything?" and then it listed things like, "Geometry textbook, Grammar textbook, pencils, English homework." After having this taped up on my door for two weeks, it became a habit for me to mentally run through all the things I needed and whether or not I had them.

i just don't understand how you can't remember to take your keys with you. like, that's just like common sense to me... like, can you give me some tips on how to remember to spell my name? or how to put on a shirt? or how to tie a shoe? common sense like that.. you just put your key in your pocket or in your purse or around your neck and go.

i have five sets of car keys, my house key, a shed key, a lock key, and various other keys.. when i was at school i had my apartment building key, my door key, and my mailbox key.. it's just common sense for me to take my keys with me wherever i go. number one i can't get into my building without them, number two i can't get into my car without them, etc..

i guess it could be new if you've never had to carry keys before, but i'd assume that after you leave them behind the first time or two you'd remember from then on :)

Maybe because some people aren't used to carrying keys because someone was always home? I have a friend who never carries her keys because her doorman keeps them for her. shrug some people just have a tendency to forget things.
