how do you juggle sequential transfer admissions?

Hi all - this question is a bit premature, but … my daughter wants to transfer from her current school and is seeking Fall '19 admission elsewhere. The various schools to which she’s applying seem to release all their acceptances on a given day (i.e., not rolling), but that day varies by school. We’ve also been told that some schools give transfer applicants a very short time-frame in which to accept - sometimes as short as 2 days! So we’re trying to figure out how people ever manage this – e.g., what do you do if you get an offer from your #4 school before you hear from your #1 school?

This is like being on waiting lists. Accept the first solid offer that you like. Then if you get in elsewhere later, decide between those two. You can accept, pay deposits, and then cancel your enrollments in sequence at as many places you feel like.

It also is OK to ask the colleges in question for an extension of the decision date. Some will be happy to oblige.

Thank you, happymomof1! Is there any kind of honor code you sign or other ethical concern about putting down multiple deposits? (We didn’t have to do this the first time around so I have no clue.)

There is no problem with accept-deposit-drop. Just be sure to drop A as soon as you confirm with B. As with fresman admissions, it would be uncool to try to hold onto spaces at two places at the same time.

But verify that everything is absolutely in order at B before ditching A, and then make certain that A is completely ditched. You don’t want to be facing a surprise tuition bill from A!

Belated thanks!
