So I'm extremely stupid and decided to leave my huge analysis paper until the last minute. I'm positive I'm pulling an all nighter tonight but I get pretty tired after midnight. Any suggestions on what to keep me up? This is worth three test grades so it's kind of a big deal. I've tried red bull, monster, and large iced coffees but for some reason caffeine has no effect on me.

Motivation.

Get the popcorn ready! Don’t let yourself get comfortable either.

Just keep in mind that getting a good grade is really important. That’s enough motivation for me.

Better start now. Drink coffee. Blast the TV/ stereo. Put reminders on your cell phone to wake you up (volume up high). Set an alarm clock. Tell someone to wake you up even if it means pouring water on you.

“This is worth three test grades so it’s kind of a big deal.”

That should be enough to keep you up! Actually, that should have been the motivator to get things started sooner, but now that you are down to the wire…sounds like you had better stay awake or else things won’t look so good for you for that class!

Midnight is a time I’m lucky to get to sleep by, so I might be used to staying up an hour or two later than you.
Mainly determination helps. I think it’s good to concentrate on small accomplishments. So once you finish, say, writing one page, you can have a mini celebration and that can keep you up.
Sometimes I put the TV on. It distracts me and I take a lot longer but it keeps me awake.
If I absolutely must, I make myself espresso with Ethiopian grounds from Fauchon. It’s impossible to sleep after I’ve had some of those, and the day after, I feel really ill because the caffeine content is so high. Make sure you dilute it with milk and sugar because it’s very strong. I’m all out of my grounds and I don’t know if there’s a Fauchon on this continent. Lames.

I’m not really good at school-related all-nighters anymore for some reason (though I can stay up till five in the morning doing random stuff on my own), but when I was, I’d keep CNN on and take 20-minute power naps just when I was about to crash.

Sound advice: Do not work on your bed.

^ Rachael has some great advice.
Many times while doing work in bed I woke up in the morning to say, “CRAP.”

Where do you live (time zone wise)? Can’t you start it now?

Anywho, I don’t do all nighters. Instead, whenever I have something big and time consuming due the next morning I wake up early and do it then. Usually I’m a fair deal more refreshed and concentrated after a 5 hours of sleep than I would be after 19 hours of no sleep. So I’d advise that you set your alarm clock for 2 or 3 and just do it before school then. :]

Insomnia.

Keeping myself awake during the night is easy. It’s keeping myself awake during the day (particularly during the late-afternoon) that I can’t do.

That is so funny, yawn!
Sounds like this thread is right up your alley with your username!!!

I can relate to what you are saying…when it is time to go to bed, that is when you think of everything! Oh, real quick, I will just do this…real quick, I will just get this done, etc!

I live in the east coast just got out of school it’s 2. Yeah I’ll start now but it’s just I don’t know how to go about it. But some great tips though. BTW I’m not at all a morning person. The last time I said I’d get up early, I got up even later than normal lol

5-hour-energy shots…they are insane

I eat a lot to stay up all night. To keep myself up the next day, I dont eat anything.

Ooh, I did allnighters ALL of the time during the school year. Just purchase several redbulls and mtn dews and drink one when you get a LITTLE bit tired (because it take a while to kick in). Also, shower during the night. Oh, and if it’s cold out side, leave the window open to so you’re cold (uncomfortable=no sleep). Cooking can help keep you occupied too; I make pasta.

Coffee baby. I go through pints of that stuff

If you are a guy, I certainly know of some methods.

What I tend to do is keep all the lights on so I am wide awake. I also turn the radio up load. It often helps to stand while you are working, I find that it keeps you uncomfortable and it allos you to pace. When you start to get tired, walk around a bit, this also helps when your brain freezes up because you are so tired, it helps re-focus you. Also eat food. Don’t eat warm things, that is too comforting. Instead munch on some grapes or maybe a sandwhich or something, this keeps you busy, if you eat stuff that is “unhealthy” aka the simple carbohydrate foods, sugary things, it allows your body to get the energy fast. Also tap your fingers, move a little bit to the music, etc. This is surprisingly helpful when you are trying to stay awake and stay focused.
Good luck!
