So for my housing invoice I faxed back to FSU that I want a deferment and that I want financial aid to pay for my housing. I know I am qualified, I just don't know how to tell that FSU gave me a deferment or even received my fax. I haven't even heard anything yet about tuition?

It is usually automatic. FA comes in, gets applied to tuition, fees, room, and then you get a refund of anything left for books and meal plan. You have to fill out paperwork to defer book payments at the bookstore and you have to fill out paperwork and pay a fee to defer mealplan, but room will be deferred automatically as it is billed directly by FSU.

Tuition for next year is running unusually behind, although like last year, this is likely due to the uncertainty in both state and federal funding.

If Congress doesn’t do something before the August 2 deadline, federal financial aid could very well be delayed. That’s a potential nightmare situation for hundreds of schools.

Could the situation with the federal funding change/cut the amount we’re receiving in federal financial aid as of for this year?

Yes. Everything is up in the air now with federal debt ceiling situation. Even if debt ceiling deal is done soon, financial aid could be changed for fall term. Usually things don’t turn out as bad as we sometimes fear so let’s hope everything works out for everyone–we’re all in the same boat.

It could very well change, but I highly doubt things like federal student loans or federal grants/work-study will be impacted heavily, if at all.

The only time you can really feel safe about your financial aid is the day that FSU applies everything to your account and you see that every dollar of federal aid that FSU initially placed in your account was applied.
