How do you make sure clothes aren't stolen?

and honestly, nobody, and i mean nobody (that I know anyway) cares if you shop at Walmart or Ralph Lauren. Noone would even notice if you shopped at Walmart. People don't inspect the tag's to your clothing before they befriend you. (Oh hold on, before we go out for lunch, what brand are your shoes?... No... it doesn't happen like that.)

I'm not trying to be rude or anything like that, but I'm really having a hard time taking this thread seriously. Your roommate is not going to steal your clothes. Neither are your roommates friends. How do I know this? because you live with the roommate and you definately would notice if he/she was wearing your shirt. Same with his/her friends. Chances are, you know who they are and you would notice if they were wearing your missing shirt. Same with the people in your hall. You know them, you'll know if they're wearing your missing shirt. The only time I've ever heard of anything being stolen is in the laundry room, and I only heard one story of it in all four years of college. (See above post). The only thing I can recommend to prevent that is to stay in the laundry room while your clothes are being washed and dried, however I think you can come up with better things to do during that two hour period... if you really can't think of something better to do, take your homework with and do it there... But don't be suprised if you're the only person waiting.

For future reference I never talk about the way others dress and I NEVER brag or talk about what I wear in real life. Please don't assume I think I'm above others because I think my clothes are somewhat pricey. I never knew these brands were so common in college so forgive me for assuming that. I've never been to college yet. For those of you that insulted me, get off this forum if you can't be mature about it. I flamed because what responses I got were retarted and unnecessary. For those of you that advised me, thanks a lot, it really helped.

saying that responses were "retarded" is just as unnecessary and offensive, sorry to say. and i mean, plenty of people, myself included, offered advice and were flamed.

yeah i agree with bluestar7
Indian. your the one that should get off this forum

Indian-- it's sad you're assuming your roommate is going to 1) care how much you spent and 2) rob you.

I flamed for this type of comment. I doubt I flamed anyone who offered actual advice. And yes, most comments were retarted, like:

Question: How do you make sure clothes aren't stolen?
Answer: Don't go to a crappy state school in the middle of Ghettoville USA. Everywhere else you'll be fine.

i can't wait until the second week of school when indian posts a new thread that goes a little something like this"

"Omg!!someone stole my 65$ ralph lauren polo from me! I take all my clothes to class with me in a bag so that I can watch over them at all hours of the day, but when I went to go and hand in my test, somebody ripped the bag and took my favorite shirt! Someone help me! It's a special shirt that no one else has, because surely no one else in this region can afford a brand such as Ralph Lauren for that price! How do I find this perpetrator??"

Why shut up? Because I'm right and you can't think of anything better to say?

My freshmen year, there was a pile of some girl's socks and underwear and various other white things sitting on top of one of the dryers for, oh, three months or so. It never seemed to get any smaller so I'm assuming no one ever stole anything from it. I'm not sure what was more surprising, the fact that it was still there after we came back from Christmas break or the fact that whoever it belonged to clearly did not miss any of it the entire time. I still wonder whether the person finally took it back or whether someone finally got tired of seeing it every few hours (our washers and dryers were in the bathroom so the great white pile was the first thing you saw when you entered).

indian needs to get a life!!!!

Yea, seconded. Indian you are lame because you fear getting your clothes taken so much that you post it on an internet msg board with the attitude of a pathetic 10 year old.

indian where are you going to college?

Purdue University....

BECAUSE NOBODY LIKES YOU
bring that attitude to college and im pretty sure youll be the punk of your class. im also pretty sure that nobody will care for you and that most likely, your clothes WILL get stolen.

I worked several summers to earn all of my possessions. My parents didn't buy me much during highschool. I fear losing what I worked hard for regardless if it's my laptop or my socks because they weren't handed to me on a silver platter. And FYI, I didn't make this thread with an attitude dumbass. It's dim witted people like you that make it look like I came in with an attitude. And one more thing, I could care less about what a random, anonymous person thinks about me, another random, anonymous person.

Ok when I first started this thread the only thing that could've been offensive was thinking my clothes were expensive. I never called anyone out, and I most certainly wasn't expecting this much flaming. I normally wouldn't lash out like this but this is just unacceptable. I asked a fairly legit question about college life, and I got flamed for it. Would you be happy if you were me? I thought this was a place to ask questions, not to get flamed for asking. I did not start the flaming at all.

I didn't read the entire thread but if that is what happened then I guess it is not your fault and people should be nicer to you.

Nah, just this guy. I think he's also just as ignorant as obnoxious, which makes it even worse.

Indian, Ralph Lauren is going to be the most popular kind of clothing in college ... most likely even more than Abrecrombie. I wouldn't worry about getting your clothes stolen or anything else stolen as long as you keep your door locked when you're not there.

Roomates and friends will most likely not steal stuff but other people can walk into dorms and open an unlocked door and steal your clothes, laptop, etc.

I know a girl who had a bunch of her clothes stolen because she wouldnt keep her door locked not because a roomate conspired against her.

And yea not to insult you, but your wardrobe aint nothing.... in college you'll see plenty of people with about 25-30 rl/lacoste polos and then girls with their insane wardrobes, purses, and jewlery. Then after that, you can move from upper class to elite upper class when some people wear 200 dollar tshirts let alone polo shirts.

I am not ignorant for thinking my clothes were somewhat expensive, just naive. I never knew RL was a popular college brand. I have things more expensive than RL but they aren't the type of clothes people would steal so I just listed some clothing items off the top of my head. Please don't assume I'm obnoxious; I was just so infuriated with the injust replies I recieved by asking a legit question. I didn't deserve any of this flaming.

I was just considering the possibilities and what to do to prevent them.

the people here are truly being obnoxious. I personally would care if a five dollar shirt was missing.

guys, stop being such dicks to the op

its a legit concern if his clothes get stolen, espccially if he or his parents cant afford more of the same kind of clothes or if his parents just wont buy everything for him. rich white kids, not everyone can go to daddy and get w/e the **** u want.

50/60 dollars is a pretty legitimate concern, especially when you earn the money yourself.
