Hi, all. I am currently a junior and I am on the cusp of being in the top 10%. (I'm in a rather competitive high school) I really want to hear about your method of studying, especially from valedictorians and others who ranked pretty high in high school. Thank you in advance for all responses!! :)

I mthink I'm pretty high up there and the way I study is that I organize each subject and assign a time for each one....like precalc for 2 hours, world history for 1 hour, etc. i find it to be the most effective way to get a well-rounded study

Thank you. Do you do that each day or right before a test?

I used to be at the top of my class so I can offer advice about what I did. You MUST look over notes every day and not cram. Don't just "read"....re-write everything, write mock essays that explain your learning, etc (for example for AP Bio find one of the old AP essay questions relating to your topic and write an essay for it explaining it as throroughly as possible.)

However some people work well by crammimg. I'm not one of them.

I do that as well. For example, I go to bed at 10:00 (I'd be too tired if I didn't), and I get home at 5:00, so I have about 4 hours to work (subtract dinner, CC :D). I'll try to divide those 4 hours as reasonable as possible. I also set my priorities. Like if I have a big project due on a certain, but I also have small homework assignments due on the same day, the first thing I would work on would be the big project.

it really depends on how hard the chapter is...I normally do it per night, but if I have a test the next day I put more time into it....but my school seems to like to give tests all at the same time (I hve a french 2, world history, and precalc test wednesday :() but ya....of course you put extra time for a test cuz its worth A LOT more then homework (which I'm sure everyone knows)

Thank you for all the replies!! Seriously, it means a lot! (Now just to get off CC)

lol.....as long as you stay focused on your school work, you can make top 10%

try and do most of ur BS hw like worksheets and book work in school, when you pick your classes pick like tech studies, or film, or basketball, as a chill class so you can do all your work and study

I cram a lot, so maybe that's why I'm not valedictorian.

I deal with all the imminent stuff first- like things due the next day- and then work on long term projects. It's so much easier doing something in small pieces instead of doing it all the night before.

And I've definitely learned that the hard way. XD

Take the book, soak it in water, and smash it on my head repeatedly. The information goes into my head through osmosis. Therefore, my skull is selectively permeable. :)

^One night I was studying for a test, and I fell asleep on my textbook.

I got an A on the test :D.

i have a spanissh final tomorrow. i went home, ate a snack, fell asleep, got up, ate another snack, fell asleep, and ate dinner, and now i'm on cc.

hopefully i will not fail.

I don't.
I mean, basically.

^ Pretty stereotypical of the DC public schools around here if you ask me. Unless you go to one of the privates :P

No, I'm in the IB Diploma program at a private school. I do my homework--essays, problem sets, lab reports, whatever--but I don't study.

Prioritize, no procrastination, good notes, practice quizzes/tests. I'm still stumped on Calculus though...it's so hard! I'd like some suggestions for Calc studying in particular.

Sorta curious what private you go to. Does it start with an S? or an N?

It starts with a W. My sister is a freshman at the school that starts with an N. How about you?
