I've heard of people having lots of Dine In Dollars left over, but I don't see how. $1,300 Dine In Dollars will provide for about $38.24 per week, or $5.46 a day. That's only enough for one meal per day. You can't even squeeze in two meals eating at the All-You-Care-To-Eat dining areas.

WalMart/room mate’s wallet… Or starve?

But seriously, I wonder too…:(

I think it’s because people end up eating out with their friends a lot. Most people I heard from have a bunch left over too, so we should be fine.

I have $500 left over from last year.

My friend who lived in Jester (I lived in Kins) ended up using all of hers. Just depends.

I don’t know how either. Lots of students are broke and can’t afford to eat out.

You do know you also have $300 in Bevo bucks, right?

Most people do not eat every single day at places that take dine in. You can always buy food from somewhere like frozen stuff or microwaveable things before you come if you are worried.

If I live off campus and don’t have a meal plan at UT, yet still want to eat at UT, do I add in dine-in-dollars or do I add bevo bucks?

I believe you should get Dine-In-Dollars as you get discounts for using this.

you can only add in bevo bucks. I dont think you can add dine-in dollars unless you’re a resident.

Well if you are a resident adding Dine In Dollars is your best bet. You get a serious discount when using the all-you-care-to-eat dining centers. Like, it’s really worth it for a dinner when you didn’t get much for lunch. Eat a lot at like 6:30 and it will last through the end of the day and you won’t have to eat more.

Or bring a backpack and sneak out a banana or some other fruit. Nothing major, just a quick snack for later. They really don’t like people doing that, but it’s not that bad.

My friends brought ziplock bags to kins and stole cereal. Like directly from the cereal dispenser. xD Also I have taken a few…dozen…oranges before. So like WTK said, you can sneak stuff out of Kinsolving if you want.

Not sure about the Jester all you can eat because I have never been there.

Yeah, J2 doesn’t open until the first day of school.

But…remember that bringing stuff out of Kinsolving is theft. You are paying a slashed rate for an all-you-can eat meal, not for two all-you-can-eat meals. If you can’t accept this, don’t eat there. It’s pretty simple.

And to answer the question, you have enough Dine-in dollars for 12 meals a week, and only if you eat at the cheapest all-you-can-eat places all the time. I cannot see anyone being able to go a year using only this and $300 Bevo Bucks. Most people either make a HEB or Walmart run at some point and get frozen foods, and they also go out to eat.

As a side note, the $300 Bevo Bucks lasted me 6 weeks, so don’t try to survive off this.

"Yeah, J2 doesn’t open until the first day of school.

I know…I meant last year.

you can add money to your bevo bucks and then transfer them into your dine-in dollar account

Why would you want to? The dining hall food is not worth it–if you’re going to spend real money on food, why not eat a little better?

Why you would want to use Dining Dollars, even adding money into your Bevo Bucks and then transferring it into Dining Dollars:

If you are low on money, you can get a LOT of food with dine in dollars at Kinsolving or J2. At lunch time, $3.90 in Dining Dollars can get someone who lives on campus fruit, vegetables, milk or soda, salad, an entree, seconds on anything if you want, dessert with soft serve on top, coffee. Or $4.28 for dinner. If you are trying to save money, using Dining Dollars in Kinsolving and J2 is the way to do it.

It helps if you watch the menus and see what is good on what day at each venue. For example, this Friday (tomorrow), J2 has Chipotle Chicken Wings at lunch and Kinsolving has Barbeque Chicken Pizza at dinner, if either of those appeals to you.

Of course you need a break from cafeteria food sometimes, but save your cash by taking advantage of the all you can eat venues when you can.

Yes, currently I’m eating Pop Tarts and water for breakfast. I have some cereal, but yet to eat this. Pop tarts are a pretty cheap meal. Then what I’ve been doing is eating Lunch but at a later time and I haven’t been very hungry for dinner, so I can eat a light snack.

I’m a thin person, but I’m afraid that this new eating habit is going to cause me to gain weight or be unhealthy (And yes, I know there’s a gym). But there’s A LOT of walking involved to get to classes that I never really did normally.

If you are living on campus, you have enough dining dollars to eat 12 meals a week in the cafeteria. Go for lean meet without sauce or breading, fruit, veggies, and skim milk; watch out for salad dressing! :)

Breakfast is the best meal the cafeterias serve–you can actually watch them cook it, and there is hardly anyone there. I only wish I had found this out earlier than finals time.
