if you don’t know anyone yet, live in the dorms, i haven’t met many people through class yet

I want to live somewhere super convenient (eg, near or on campus), but since UCD thinks I’m a creepy old person since I’m going to be 24 next year, I get to live off campus.

Gotta love that policy XD

It may be a blessing in disguise, I don’t want to share a room because I’m picky, but I do like socializing.

^lol…old person. eewwww gross hahaha.

Co-Ed with hot girls… nuff’ said.

I have endless horrid roomate stories from when I shared rooms and apartments with random people.

Having my things stolen/used up/eaten/ruined is just not alright with me anymore.
I am also an older transfer student (though really, when did 24 get old?) and don’t fit in with 18-21 year old kids. I don’t mean to be rude, we just have different ideas of parties, haha.

^exactly. Twenty-four years old is NOT old. When the heck was it EVER considered old? Ancient Egypt, maybe? Certainly not in the information age in post-industrial nations. I like to party with good friends, eat good food, drink good wine (what I could afford lol), and have good conversations. And if I happen to have overnight guests, I can be happy knowing that it is my own decision and I wouldn’t have to ask the roomate if it was alright.

Haha, right. There are many 18 year olds that are both older looking and more mature than I am anyway.

shrug

It turns out that transfer students can live on campus - you can go to the single student apartments (which are sorta similar to UCSD’s “village” in that you have your own room but share an apartment). The drawback is it’s really expensive, and for the $$ you could easily live off campus. :)

I live basically down the street from UCSD. So if I were to end up transferring there, I’d be living off campus in my own condo and taking the shuttle in.

Wait you can’t be living on campus at UCD when 24+? That would be stupid, can’t be true… I’ll be 24 after 2 months there.

I should be there next Fall and I’m shooting for the dorms my first semester - heard good things about Segundo. Gotta socilize and make some new friend.

An RA is convient to help ppl with problems and get stuff fixed, but there’s a fine line between being helpful and being a nuisance. Gotta give ppl their space, it’s college after all, live it up!

You CAN live on campus if you are 24+. There are places for graduate students that let in 24+ undergrads (because you are considered a special circumstance lol) as long as you are single. If you are married you can live with your spouse at Orchard, Solano, or Russell Park. The best apartments on campus are the grad student/24+ undergrad apartments. Most just live off campus because it costs less (unless you live at Solano or Orchard Park).

I think I would prefer just a normal dorm style setting. If I want a single room I could opt for that or if I prefer a roomate I could go for that.

I’d probably want to live in a dorm setting, just so I can say I had “the college experience,” since all my friends at university constantly bombast me for still being at home. Considering I just turned 18 anyway, I’d fit in just fine.

Thanks for all the responses!

Keep responding, but I just want to make the UC Davis policy clear for transfer students right now. You have to be 24 or younger when your housing contract starts to live in the residence halls. So if you turn 25 in December after your housing contract started in September, you can still live in the residence halls. In the single student apartments, anyone can live in them. You can be 18 or 34. The Single Student Apartments are private apartment complexes, with one of those complexes on campus and the other two off campus. These complexes do not include Solano or Orchard Park, just for your information. UC Davis does offer married housing as well. I just wanted to clear the air!

Thanks for all for your opinions.
