How does AP credits work for stony?

I was on Stony’s website for ap credits. It seems that I’m able to receive around 41 credits for my aps. Will they all go through and will I be able to graduate early?

They only accept a max of 30 credits by AP. But that is more than enough to graduate early.

My son started Stony in 2014 with 18 AP credits and 15 college credits earned in high school. Stony took them all and he’s graduating in May a year early

I knew very bright girl who took a lot of AP credits for college credit and then started freshman year taking the more advanced classes…ruined her GPA for premed. Sometimes its better just to take the class over again in college…

Do you think quantum physics, linear algebra and differential equations, and multivariate calculus would count towards credits or is there a placement test I can take?

According to the Stony Brook Math Department website:

“4. Students who learned some linear algebra or multivariate calculus before entering Stony Brook should see an advisor in the Undergraduate
Mathematics Office. For a student who has had some linear algebra, it may be appropriate to skip MAT 211 and to enroll directly in MAT 310.
5. Six credits of graduate MAT courses may be used in place of undergraduate courses in Requirement A7.”

However, just because you are able to place into a higher math class doesn’t mean that you will get college credits for classes that are pre-requisites of that higher class. It is my understanding that you only get college credit if you score high enough on the AP exam for any AP classes.

I mean I have 4s and 5s on my aps so I think ap wise I’m fine.

but there is no such thing as AP multivariable calculus or AP Linear Algebra so you can’t get credit for multivariable calculus or linear algebra…

@borgdoctor I meant I have 4s and 5s on my aps in general, which are around 41 credits. I know that multi and linear aren’t ap classes. I can always ask if they can honor the courses from my high school if not, I can try to ask for a placement test. If that doesn’t work, I can just simply repeat the course over again. I’m just looking to be in an advanced math class. I have a 5 in calc bc and stat, which will count for math credits.
