Why does Cal Poly Slo only look at english and math act scores?

Just a general question thats puzzled me…I’ve heard that Cal Poly Slo only looks at two subject scores for the act; math and english. This seems stupid to me, as it is generally known that the reading and science sections on the act are the hardest. It just sucks since my composite score is higher than my math+english score, and SLo is my #1 choice. Is there any logical reasoning behind this? Thanks for any response!

Not really any logical reasoning. It’s because for the SAT, they don’t accept writing and I guess it is their way of evening the two out so that all their applicants are only evaluated on the standardized testing by CR and Math

@blueguy99 ok that makes a little more sense…thanks!

CSU policy is to superscore the SAT or ACT without the writing sections.

Lots of colleges discount the writing score. They don’t think the sort of essay you can produce on the fly in 20 minutes or so has a lot of relevance to the kind of work you will actually do in college.

I’d argue that the science and reading are the easiest on the ACT personally, they don’t require much deep level thinking or prior knowledge. They simply ask “how fast can you reference this chart or paragraph”, all answers are DIRECTLY from the text
