I (sadly) was rejected from the University of Texas and placed in CAP. I have not yet accepted CAP, but am strongly considering it because it has always been my dream to go to UT. My question is that I've already taken four AP tests (U.S. History (I got a 5), World History (4), Human Geography (5), and English Language (4)), and this year will be taking five more (Spanish language, English Literature, Environmental Science, US Government, and Macroeconomics). Additionally I am taking statistics at Austin Community College this semester. I am leaning towards the CAP program because I desperately want to go to UT, but I worry that I will have to retake a bunch of classes I have already received credit for. Is this going to be an issue, or are there enough CAP classes that I can take to make my freshman year at UTSA worth my time? I really want to go into McCombs when I get to UT-Austin, but I know it's really competitive so my backup is economics because it is a liberal arts degree (which is guaranteed from CAP).

I’m sorry you were CAPed. I spoke with an admissions counselor about transferring credit to CAP because I expected to be CAPed and I applied with 21 dual credit hours. I was told that none of those credits would count towards the CAP requirements.

I don’t know about CAP requirements but you can easily get 30 credits taking:
3 hours GOV, 8 hours Calculus, 6 hours Science & Technology, Part I, 3 hours VPA, 3 hours ECO 304K, and the rest from BBA requirements above is up to you

TrueTexan–If you choose to accept CAP, you are going to need to be careful about which courses you accept AP credit for since some of them, e.g. History, make up a large part of the CAP list. Here is UTSA’s list for 2012-2013:http://www.utexas.edu/student/admissions/cap/2012-2013/utsa.pdf

As you can see from the pdf, these are the only approved courses that will fulfill CAP requirements, from which you need 30 hours. If you take a course not on the list to fulfill the 30 hour requirement, such as Accounting or MIS, you will not meet the criteria for CAP transfer.

Additionally, you do not need to claim your AP credit if that interferes with taking CAP courses at UTSA. While it may be disappointing to not do so, if going to UT is your goal, then eschewing some AP credit to take the appropriate CAP classes would be the way to go, IMO.

Glad this question was posted…son is working toward IB Diploma, and although he actually only has a couple of AP tests and one dual-credit class (Econ) under his belt, we’re wondering how the IB Diploma/credits will affect his ability to fulfill the CAP requirements & whether it would be better to just go ahead and go to A&M. Obviously need to go back and look at those course lists more closely to see if he can get the 30 in w/o completely giving up on everything he’s worked so hard for up to this point (he’s thinking UTA or UTPB, since UTPB offers some grant money to CAP students).

From this list TrueTexan has to take at least 23 credits (8 calculus, 6 science, 3 ECO, 3 VAP, 3 GOV) and worry about 7 more.
Spanish? SPN 804?
Or extra VAP, SS classes with easy A?

Thanks for the help. I’m not too happy about having to give up AP credit for CAP, but I suppose it might have to be done if I really want UT. I’m visiting Butler, my second choice school next week but I still really want to do CAP if it doesn’t mean me having to give up most of the credit hours I have already earned.

Yaya, I actually just looked at all the really great information you just provided. This looks really helpful. If I understand correctly even with all the hours I currently have I can still find enough classes to fulfill CAP. Many thanks for your help.
