I was talking too some recruiters and they said that they found accounting and marketing as the biggest strength. Is it a good school? Anyone with any inside info on DePaul...thanks.

have you considered kellogg or the gsb??

Its tough to compete in Chicago with two of the best business schools in the world. I'm sure it's formidable if you're looking to work regionally though.

DePaul suffers in Chicago like Fordham in New York: under the shadow of two highly acclaimed and highly ranked schools. For DePaul its UChicago and Northwestern. For Fordham its NYU and Columbia. But Fordham is gaining on them, especially in business! I would say go for it and go get em!

well I'm an undergraduate majoring in accounting...so it doesn't really matter if I go to U of C or northwestern for undergrad does it, especially in accounting.

Are you looking for a job in Chicago after graduation? If so, I'd think that the 80,000 DePaul alumni in metro Chicago would be a bonus....

With neither NU or UC having an undergrad accounting program, DePaul moves to the top for local accting recruiting. No worries. Most competition for the local big accting jobs will be from the army of Big 10 accting majors starting with Illinois.

DePaul has a reputation, but it doesn't jump off the page. You'll be in the same class as Loyola and UIC grads (and Northern Illinois has a strong accounting program). DePaul and Loyola have the upper hand with on-campus recruitment.

thanks! I guess as long as I get good grades and get involved with internships and clubs....I should have a shot with the Big 4

anyone here who graduated DePaul and majored in Business?

I knew a senior last year majoring in Marketing. She interned as a receptionist for a financial services company. Liked DePaul for many reasons. Didn't say much about the business program. She had to finish up her program with one class in the summer quarter so there may be some course registration issues. But recruitment was strong. Loyola business kids sometimes snuck down to take advantage.

thanks a lot

hey fatseal11! I'm looking at DePaul a lot too. While many (average, working class) Chicago residents believe Northwestern and DePaul are top two, (many have never heard of UChicago and they've lived there all their lives) I believe DePaul is one of those schools employers like and accept, but don't get excited about.

thats sweet... are you a senior in highschool?

Yep class of 09. most likely attending depaul (unless they hurt my feelings and don't give me the $14k merit scholarship)

lol, i got the 14500 scholarship...it is sweet

DePaul will serve you just fine in the Chicago area (and you can't get an accounting undergrad degree from NU or U Chicago anyway). It's a great location and a good alumni network. Once you get that first job in Chicago, you'll be set even if you decide to move.

BTW I agree with the poster who said that many people in Chicago would know NU and DePaul as the 2 top colleges here. The average working person is likely not very familiar with UChicago (no sports presence, more off-the-beaten track location). DePaul has a superb location.

bump......

You've heard all there is to say. It's considered a good school within the Chicago area, and you'll do just fine in accounting or marketing with a degree from there. It doesn't mean that much outside Chicago. However, once you get that first job in Chicago, that'll carry you wherever you need to go. It's a regional school. What more is there to say? If you like it, go there.

hello, i lived in chicago for 6 months and visited depaul a lot..it is a great school..it has a good reputation in the midwest(mostly chicago).i think is better than loyola...If it had my major i would have applyed to it..good luck.
