How does failing a Dual Enrollment course affect my chances?

I am a high school student enrolled in a program in where I get my AA at MDC (a community college) while finishing up my last two years of high school. I just recently failed a Dual Enrollment course at the college. Implying the rest of my stats are up to par, to what affect do you think that failing grade would affect my chances at UF or FSU.

Unfortunately a dual enrollment course counts not only for high school but also is figured into your college GPA.
So not good. It’s one reason that dual enrollment is often not done if AP credit is available…
Unless you can get it changed for some reason or the college you eventually attend won’t accept those credits (giving you a clean slate) you’ve basically just bummed out your future GPA.

Go talk to your counselor to see what you can possibly do.

I’ve taken enough dual enrollment courses with good grades that my college GPA is still fine, do you think the failed class will affect my chances of admission into, say, UF or FSU?

You need to provide stats. I do know pulling up a failing grade can be tough.

Do you have a good reason for getting so far ahead in college classes? Be careful–there are negatives that you may not have thought about.

  1. You end up the youngest in your class. Which doesn’t seem bad or you can say “what’s the big deal?” but at the college level when maturity levels rise significantly it can make a huge difference.
  2. If you want a professional degree you can end up with people who already have degrees in other subjects and are significantly older than you with a lot more experience and knowledge. It adds to the competition big time. Not only in class but the job market.
  3. A lot of professional degrees actually have age requirements–I almost wasn’t old enough to practice after graduating.
  4. If you DON’T know exactly what you want to major in–you aren’t leaving any room to explore something new…
Some colleges require “junior” status to go into their major of choice.
