How does housing work for Spring Admits?

I'm a spring admit (freshman) and I've already committed and I'm super excited to come. However, I'm a little confused on how housing works for spring admits. I've emailed ResHall and they informed me that chances of me getting a dorming offer is excellent if I am fine with any location (I am), that roommates are always the same gender, and that they try their best to pick roommates who are in the same grade level.

But this is my question... If I'm coming in the spring, that means someone is leaving in the spring semester, leaving a space available for me to get a dorm. Say someone is travelling abroad/graduated for spring semester. I assumed that I would just take their spot, and the roommates of the original person would just remain the same. Basically, I'm 'filling in' for that person until the end of the semester. But wouldn't that mean the roommates would be upperclassmen because typically upperclassmen travel abroad/ graduate in the spring?

Basically, I'm just confused on who my roommates would be and how the process works. I understand the process of how I would get a dorm (lottery system).

Thank you for your help!!

Check out Fall program for Spring Admit. My daughter’s friend did this program and got into some apartment that was closed but I don’t think it was university housing.

Thank you @DrGoogle! I am not doing the Fall Program for Freshman though, but the link was informational!

If anyone knows, feel free to answer! Confused over who my roomates/how the process works.

People leave for different reasons. Some might not get along with roommates, some might be disappointed with dorms, some just find other housing. But yeah, you’ll almost definitely be matched with someone who lost a roommate.

Upperclassmen generally choose to live off-campus, and openings in rooms with juniors/seniors are more likely to be filled by Spring transfer admits. But even if you do get an older roommate, it’s only ~2 years age difference… shouldn’t be a huge deal. I had a roommate leave because she didn’t like dorming/having a roommate, and her replacement (freshman, I was a transfer) was escaping for a small, messy triple. People move around for all sorts of reasons.

@failure622‌ Ahh, I see. Thank you for your answer!! It helps clarify some things that I was confused on.

You should be fine. I remember some spring admits who didn’t do FPF showed up at Bowles in the spring, because those people had transferred dorms and the like. As long as you’re in communication with the ResHall office, you should be all set.

You would be fine. I was an extremely lucky Spring Admit. My roommates and I were all freshman and Spring Admits. People usually leave the dorms in the Spring because some move to an apartment or into their sorority/fraternity. Good luck!
