So i just got accepted(more than fucking ecstatic)
But right now im absolutely clueless about the how we are assigned different dorms. From what i have read, Markley is small but very social and Bursley is really good too. Id prefer social dorms, dont really care about the size. Would love to de-stress starting thursday… does jt matter when we accept the offer and apply for housing?
No hate please, i am absolutely clueless right now and brain isnt properly working due to this acceptancemxjsksjsnwyxhsbsys
You cannot pick a dorm on the application. You can only choose room types. Nevertheless, you may apply to specific residential programs that housed in certain dorms.
The kids we know did everything in their power to avoid North Campus given that you are a bus ride away from most classes and the social scene. This included legit things like joining the honors college and other special programs to sketchier stuff like medical and religious claims as to why they couldn’t be dependent on a bus. These things did seem to “work” to avoid North.
My daughter got into Markley. She had roommates who drank with members of sororities they were rushing in the room, and kept terrible hours. She did not enjoy the vomit on the steps every Thursday, constant unexpected overnight guests (and associated theft) or the level of immaturity. She actually chose to move to North Campus and LOVES it there. The bus ride means a little extra time, but it can also be a convenience in the winter when you have to walk outside in sub zero temperatures. The apartments where she lives are full of more studious kids who prefer a quieter life and more privacy. It’s a great fit for my daughter. Markley isn’t exactly “small”…unless you consider 1200 kids living in one building…small. It’s a very lively place with lots of crazy going on…if that appeals to you, you might enjoy it. Also, keep in mind…there are a million clubs, parties and avenues of social contact. There is always something going on, places to go, things to see. Sometimes having a quiet place to go home to…where you can get some sleep…and where it’s easy to study…isn’t a bad thing. Good luck!
