How does losing a leadership position look to colleges?

I’m in sophomore year and currently the president of my class. Elections are coming up and I’m not sure if I want to run again. My expectations for the position was hard work, leadership, and putting my ideas into effect. My position really ended up being just a spot filled for the club. I hate even going to meetings and getting every idea disregarded by our class advisor who doesn’t really like me in return haha. Should I run again for president or not run at all? How would it look if I was class president and then quit?

I plan to create another club at my school, though and plan to be heavily involved with that. Would that balance out or no saying that class president is a nice title to have?

If you aren’t enjoying it, then move on. There are something like 35,000 high schools in America, each with four class presidents each year. It’s a nice resume boost, but getting elected by itself is not really a stand-out achievement. If you take the job “above and beyond” you might have a compelling story. If not, go out and find a new adventure.

It sounds like a bad EC. Get a better one. Schools don’t care about leadership titles, they care about what you say you did in the position.

Not everyone is president of the class every year. In fact I’d guess it is more rare than common. There is a reason it is a one year position.
