For all of my applications (common app and non common app), how does my guidence councilor know what to send to each schools and what forms to fill out? (I am applying to all of my schools online and my teachers and councilors are supposed to be doing everything online as well).

Are you the first graduating senior class at the high school? And is this his first year as a counselor?

No? No? Then relax.

At my D’s school, there is a log in sheet they have to fill out with all the schools they are applying to and what decision pool for each one. Students send their applications, fees, essays and resumes (if applicable) and the school sends everything else including teacher recs (if they are from outside school, student sends the person stamped envelopes to mail to the schools). Check with your gc as I think this is the norm at most schools. Trust your gc, they have been doing this for years, they know exactly what needs to be sent.

My D1’s HS uses Naviance and it automates the transcript and teacher recommendation process.

Common App itself has online tools for requesting transcript and recommendation and sends notificaiton for obtaining these.

Most other colleges who do not use common app have their own system

Yes, I meant to say that too, D’s school is through Naviance also, makes everything much easier.

When in doubt, ask your counselor. Our counselors had us submit a list of where we were applying and then took it from there unless they needed something from us. (Well, that’s how it worked for me, since I applied almost exclusively to common app schools and did on-site admissions for my only non-common app school).

Your counselor will let you know what information you need to provide him/her with so that all the forms get filled out and sent.

Your GC is a professional and knowing what to send is his or her job?
