How does the Honors & Accelerated History/Social Science course go in your school?

9th: AP Human Geography
10th: AP World History
11th: AP U.S. History
12th: AP U.S. Government / AP Economics

AP European History is very popular, and many students take it at some point in their high school career. Comparative Government is also offered, but much less popular, to my knowledge. Psychology is also very popular.

9th: AP World History
10th: AP European History (some also take AP Art History concurrently)
11th: AP US History or IB History SL
12th: AP U.S. Government or IB History HL

PreAP World Geography
PreAP World History (sucks that you can’t get an AP credit for it, but also good because my teacher was bad. I would’ve gotten a 2 or 3)
AP US History
AP Economics (half a semester) and AP Government (other half)

9th: no history/social science offered :[
10th: World History or AP European History
11th: US History of AP US History
12th: Gov/Econ or AP US/Comparative or AP Macro/Micro

Our school indeed sucks big time when it comes to the social sciences, unfortunately.

9th: US History I and Pr-AP US History
10th: US History II and AP US History
11th: Global Cultures and AP Human Geography
12th: Economics and AP US Government and Politics

No World History is offered, there has been talks however “apparently” to remove Global Cultures and AP Human Geo and replace it with World History. Also, you can take AP Euro as an elective 11th grade and up…but they said they are cutting it due to lack of students wanting to do it.

Freshman - Adv. Ancient World History
Sophomore - AP Euro
Junior - AP US
Senior - AP US Gov

Additionally, two teachers actively push students to do independent studies in AP Micro and Macro Econ and AP Comp Gov during Sophomore and/or Junior years.

9th: standard world history, 300ce-1787 ce
10th: H world history, 1787ce-present
11th: AP US History
12th: AP Euro, H East Asia, H Africa, AP Psych, AP Comp Gov

9th: AP Euro, World, or Human Geography (choose one)
10th: AP Euro and Human Geography
11th: AP US History and Honors US History
12th: AP US Gov, Honors US Gov, Honors World Cultures (senioritis course).

There is an embarrassment of riches when it comes to honors/accelerated/AP social science courses in our district. My daughter’s sequence is probably going to be:
AP Human Geography-AP World History-AP American History-AP Macroeconomic/Am. Govt. (1 unit of American History, 1/2 unit of economics, and 1/2 unit of government are required)

She’d also like to take AP European History and AP Psychology but that’s probably not going to happen because of all the required courses she has to take thanks to the school district and the state of Illinois— 1/2 unit of Consumer Education, 1/2 unit of Health, 1/2 unit of safety education (classroom driver’s ed), and four years of PE.

Accelerated sequence at my school generally goes Adv. World Studies => AP Euro => AP US History => AP Government + AP Macro(and Micro)economics.

Freshmen have 1/3 credit classes. World Geography (Adv), Economics (Adv), and Political Science (adv). My grade didn’t have WG and Econ and PS were half credits.

Sophomores: AP Euro (not available when I was a sophomore) or Advanced World Civ.

Juniors: Advanced Modern US History (Since the Civil War) or APUSH

Seniors: (No SS required) AP US Gov’t, or Advanced (not AP) Psych and Sociology.

Freshman: Global Studies Honors
Sophomores: AP World History
Juniors: AP United States History
Seniors: PIG/Economics (Not AP :frowning: )

“thanks to the school district and the state of Illinois— 1/2 unit of Consumer Education, 1/2 unit of Health, 1/2 unit of safety education (classroom driver’s ed), and four years of PE.”

Ellie’s Mom,

Chicago? 4 years of PE thats rough lmao. in CPS its only 2. the consumer ed requirment is filled junior year as a part of modern US history (10 weeks) and health is filled through gym I.

9th Grade:
No history class required, but can take AP Human Geography

10th Grade:
AP European History or Modern Civilization

11th Grade:
AP US History or US History

12th Grade: Economics or AP Economics AND Government or AP US Government

9th Grade: Modern World History (1500s-present)
10th Grade: Choice between AP Euro, AP World, or no history
11th Grade: APUSH or regular USH (required)
12th Grade: AP Macro/Micro Econ (together), AP Gov, 1 semester of Econ, 1 semester of Gov.

AP Psych is optional for 11th/12th Grade.

9th grade - Geography is offered as an elective, otherwise freshmen do not take History.

10th grade - World History / Honors World History / AP European History.

11th grade - US History / APUSH.

12th grade - US Government & Economics / AP US Government & Honors Economics.

Psychology and AP Psychology are also offered as an elective from 10th-12th.

9: World History I (one class for all)
10: World History II (one class for all)
11: USH or APUSH
12: US Gov or AP US Gov + Hawaiian History

9th- No required History Course
10th- regular or AP World
11th- regular or AP US
12th- regular or AP Econ/Gov

I believe you can take regular or AP Human Geography any year. And Intro to Psych, AP Psych, and a Human Rights class are available to junior and seniors.

I listed our regular curriculum at #4 but our SS department also has a number of electives:

Psych, AP Psych, Sociology, History of Civil War and History of WW II.

I personally think that the SS dept is the best individual dept, faculty wise, at our HS. The only problem is that there is no honors level offered. Everyone takes the same course in 9th grade and then there are regular and AP levels with nothing in between. My daughter didn’t really like history so she didn’t do AP but she was bored out of her skull in the “regular” class and she and her friend were the best students in the class and by that I mean, best behaved. She would have done honors had it been available.

Freshmen - AP Human Geography (Awful teacher and freshmen at our school were NOT ready for this class.)
Sophomores - AP World History
Juniors - AP US History
Seniors - AP Government and AP Macroeconomics.

With the alternatives being regular global studies 1, 2, World History Honors.

Needless to say, Human Geo was the only one I did not pass except for those that I’m currently taking.
