How does the USNA notify of accepance/rejection?

Do they just send a standard rejection letter/acceptance packet? Is the decision available online before the snail mail comes? email? phone call?

My son received a phone call from the MOC who had nominated him, the thick packet arrived 3 days later.

Rejection letters are thin, if I'm not mistaken.

Actually, it's different, depending upon timing. My Mid freaked out at a thin letter from USMA which was ended up being an acceptance letter with a note about "the packet" coming soon. Since then I heard that USNA has done (but not all the time) the same thing to candidates. (So don't necessarily freak out at a thin envelope.) My Mid got a call from USNA Admissions office, but I know this is not the norm. Other Mids have first received calls from those who nominated them. It really varies. Everyone will eventually get something written and mailed to them. No, you won't see it online anywhere - unless someone else can correct me on that.

Yeah, it definitely varies. You have to understand that this is the military, nonetheless, and the way things run in the military aren't really what someone would call "smooth."

My package was reviewed in January, and two months later I was still waiting for an answer. My Chief, the Regional Director, ended up calling me with the good word, but I'm still waiting for the official acceptance letter in the mail.

So just keep that in the back of your brain housing unit. :)

FWIW, if you're an enlisted member (not for you specifically but anyone else that might be reading), the process is a bit different. For an enlisted member, your package will be reviewed by the selection board at a pre-determined date that you will know about. If you're a Nuke, Nukes have their own selection board date and compete amongst themselves for 20 designated enlisted Nuke slots. If you're not awarded one of those 20 slots, you then go into the general enlisted pool for possible selection. If not selected there, Nukes again go into a pool for Nuke NAPS slots. Regardless of whether you're a Nuke or not, you should expect official word from your CO within 48 hours of acceptance/rejection (if you're rejected, word is more likely to come from your CCC or LPO than the CO)

And for the civilians who read that and wished they knew of their exact board date, trust me, you don't want to know that day. I knew when mine was for three months before the actual date, and then I got deferred by a further 3 months because my package was complete. I would have much rather been kept in the dark about the entire process.

That said, my package went to board today, and the next 24 hours will be very stressful, no matter what the results.

Haha, you get 'em PO3!

Hmm, you definitely just provided a bunch of information that I could have used like 2 months ago.. haha. Me personally, they did tell me the exact date of the review board, my Chief even called to talk for a while about it.. but I didn't get word from my CO about the outcome within 24 to 48 hours.. I never got it. I guess the uncoordinated and uninformed nature of green side (Hoorah Marine Corps!!) prevails once more!

So, let me get this man, you went to NAPS, and now you're having your package re-evaluated? That's awesome, you're definitely getting in, so it's gonna be pretty fun to see you there on I-day! And.. how was NAPS anyway? Probably pretty fun, considering it's in Newport.

And so sorry to say, but us Docs lead the way man. :D

My package was complete in JULY!. Nominated in November. Tripled Q'd, DODMERB the whole nine yards. Have an appointment to USAFA in hand as of Jan--was notified by my MOC prior to the packet and status at both DODMERB and on the USAFA site changed well after that.
Have kind of given up on USNA though--I have not heard anything for months (invited to CVW) BGO says I am in the hunt, but almost the end of March--nothing--not looking good. Looking forward to Colorado Springs!

No, I'm at prototype here in SC. I applied way back in September but my package was incomplete so decision was deferred until yesterday. CO gets back Monday with results in hand so we shall see.

How long have you been in? I hear rumors that HM combat gets get picked up almost as much as SEAL SWCC EOD. Who gets picked up almost as much as we do. (they'd probably get more if we didn't have reserved spots. )
