Acceptance Question

Just out of curiosity, how do you find out you have been accepted to the Naval Academy? Do they notify you by mail, does the BGO tell you, do they post it on your candidate page, or tell the counselor at your school who then tells you?

That depends somewhat on who reacts first...you may hear it from your MOC, as my son did...well actually his secretary.. you may hear from your BGO and you may just get your folder in the mail. I can't recall if anything was posted on the candidate page, so someone else will have to weigh in on that one.. good luck!

I think we heard from the MOC first. The big snail mail envelope followed about a week later.

We found out last year at the DODMERB site. We saw that the status had changed and sure enough, several days later, the appointment came in the mail.

The MOC whose nomination was used to obtain an appointment will be the first person notified of the appointment. That office will usually contact the appointee, but not always. There will be no communication from the Academy to the appointee other than receiving the appointment documentation in the mail. Our Mids BGO was notified by us since he told us we would know before he would. That said I always offer my standard disclaimer on this board, others experiences could be different than ours.

As a courtesy to the MOC, each SA advises the MOC several days before any other notice is made. This gives the MOC at least 3-4 days (up to a week) to notify you if they so desire. Many MOC's make those calls themselves, others have a staff member do it and still others do not notify the candidate at all. Bottom line: each Academy gives the MOC the opportunity to notify. About a week, it will be reflected on the web and/or ALO/BGO/MALO. After a week or so the academy sends out the package, as I understand it on or about the same time they change the web page.

If you're recruited for a Varsity Sport, your coach may be the first person to tell you. That's how it was for me.

The Congressman who Nominated me never told me I got in.
Neither did my Blue and Gold Officer.

Your BGO is usually the last to know. Your MOC is notified first. After about a week, they mail you your appointment certificate. About a week after that, they tell your BGO.

The reason your BGO doesn't "notify" you is that he/she knows you already know because you know before your BGO.

I assume then the first indicator will be the letter in the mail?

Swedevb,

Our son had a Presidential and he did find out through a letter in the mail in a regular business sized envelope. Very cool envelope to get, though.

Appointment letters and bound certificates came Fed Ex.

what do you mean by they change the web page? as in your personal USNA login? because my personal information changed for some reason and my file was reviewed recently but i am not sure what is going on.

too late because
I AM OFFICIALLY GOING TO THE NAVAL ACADEMY CLASS OF 2013!!!!
I just got a call from my bgo saying so, and yes there were wierd things being changed on my webpage such as adress

Congrats!!!! Way to go!

What did the address change to on your webpage??

congrats man

it was a smart move because it was in fact administration who changed my adress to my BGO's adress because my case was strange. I was reviewd with 3 friends of mine from my school and when we were all accepted, they didnt want to space the time that we get our loas so they sent it to my bgo who will give it to all of us.

does anyone know if this is the first time 4 kids from the same school got into teh academy? cuz i know this is the first time anyone in my school ever applied

I'd speculate this amazing accomplishment is not a first, but don't know. Where are you from? Do you have actual appointments or only LOA's? Any nominations yet? Not to throw any cold water on a very hot and exciting time, but LOA's, as have been noted are outstanding, but not appointments nor inductions.

Congrats and well done! Enjoy this feeling as I suspect there are few others that will measure up.

Congrats, drepol! Enjoy this achievement until you (hopefully) become a lower-than-dirt Plebe!

thanks alot! and yes all 4 of us got LOA's but our nominations should come real soon as well

So0 how long until after a congressman calls for the appointment will the good news come in the mail?
