How does University of Michigan COE Calculate GPA For Transfer Students?

Hello, I am an in-state CC student (WCC). I recently took a physics class which a I got a C+ in, significantly dropping my GPA. I am applying as a transfer student for the winter 2018 semester for COE, and will have all the prerequisites done. My GPA upon applying will be 3.6, this only accounts for 34 credits, and not the 12 credits that I will be taking this fall upon applying.

My question is if I retake the class, how will UMich COE view my GPA?

  1. Would they average out the 2 giving me a 3.15 - GPA becomes 3.77 (assuming I get an A)
  2. Or would they only account for the higher grade when looking at my GPA - GPA becomes 3.82 (again assuming I get an A)

I am also not sure if its worth retaking the class, a 3.6 GPA student from their top feeder institution for transfers (WCC) that has all his prerequisites seems like a good candidate for getting accepted.

I am sure will factor in all attempts, as that is how GPA will be actually be calculated if you were a student here.
