How early should you apply for admissions into LSU Petroleum Engineering? They've had the applications out since like the Spring of 2010. How late is too late?

just an FYI bork x 3, i submitted my LSU PetE application today! Now I am working on my Essays for TAMU PetE!

^ cool. maybe we’ll see each other in college.

I finished the LSU app, but I haven’t submitted it, and for TAMU, I only have one essay.

^^ INOTIES
Don’t forget to fill out the application for engineering scholarships.

oh yes thank you for the heads up, where will i find that?!

for lsu: http://www.eng.lsu.edu/file/diversity/Freshman_Diversity_Program_Scholarship_Application.pdf
You’ll need 2 recs and you can re-state your EC’s (with max space, unlike the online app)

tamu doesn’t have one.

You’re a freshman, right? These scholarships seems to be mainly for URM’s and/or people who are eligible for federal grant aid. But, you don’t have to be either of those to apply.

[LSU College of Engineering](http://www.eng.lsu.edu/diversity/resources/undergrad)

Hmmm so I am a little confused. The link says LSU Diversity Program, can you apply even if your not a minority? But I do believe I qualify for Federal Grant Aid. UHR?

Yes you can definitely apply. Their diversity scholarships are for either people who are URM’s and/or people who qualify for grant aid. Selection among those groups is based on merit.

I’m not too sure about people who are neither of those. The PetE dept. has about 40 scholarships (from 1-3k/yr), too.

Hmmm very cool Bork. Thanks for the information! I will at the least submit mine and she what I can get. Talk to you soon!

^ Well actually I talked to them today and the amount is $750, and you only get it given that you are taking calc classes and not trig or algebra. If you are taking trig/algebra, you’ll get it the semester you take calc.

Oh ok, that’s good to know. Bork are at interested in LSU’s Summer Geology Camp?

http://www.pete.lsu.edu/summer_geologycamp.html

^ Wow that’s pretty cool. I’ll definitely look into it. I’ll contact Prof. Thurber on Tuesday.

For petE, it’s always good to consider to TAMU, Colorado School of Mines, University of Oklahoma, and LSU. From there it generally goes down in terms of the scholarship/merit aid and quality (save UT Austin, NMT, UAF, and TU).

yes my schools that I am applying to are TAMU, UT Austin, LSU, and OU. I won’t get into UT though lol.

^ Hey, you can never know for sure until you apply.

What about Mines? They have a really strong petE program, however their OOS tuition is almost as crazy as UT’s (26k, compared to UT’s 32k). However, they do give 9-12k in merit aid and aren’t as stingy as UT.

Their online application is quick and free, without essays, recs, etc. It literally takes less than 15 mins to fill out.

alright i will submit a Mines app whenever i find the chance! My easiest route would be to UT or A&M because they are in-state tuition for me. But if all else fails, i can attempt to get close to in-state tuition with merit aid at LSU or Mines. Good luck with that at OU though, lol.

Hi can anyone tell me, abt the job scene afte a MS in petroleum engineering from LSU ?
compared to universities like USC and University of TULSA.

Thanks

most people would agree that a BS along with 2-3 years of work experience puts you in a better position than a MS and 0 years of work experience. But nonetheless, USC has a petrol program but it is not ABET accredited, which is quite important. And when it comes to Tulsa and LSU, i’d say LSU would probably present better opportunities due to it’s location near the coast, but you can’t go wrong with either school.
