How easily/often do AU students go into DC?

The metro ride is ~45 minutes. Does that impede anyone?

Where are you getting the 45 mins approximation for the metro ride? The website has the metro ride from Tenleytown-AU metro stop to Capitol South being 25 mins.

I’m getting my estimate from Google Maps

Maybe that included walking to the metro stop? It’s an easy, inexpensive trip.

It depends upon where you mean in DC. AU is in DC, to get downtown by Metro doesn’t take 45 minutes (I.e. Dupont, Metro Center or Verizon Center) although the Metro has had a lot of problems recently!

There is a shuttle from campus to the Tenleytown metro station. You can quickly hop on a metro to the most of the DC sites and get there quickly. The only part of town hard to get to is Georgetown. On weekends, especially the first few weeks, people go a lot. Plus this coming year, all students will receive a metro pass with their student ID. It is a part of the student fees now.

People often go into downtown DC as part of their coursework, with many going on Wednesdays as part of a lab section for their courses. Here’s the link to transit website: http://www.wmata.com/ . I recommend using this instead of Google Maps for planning purposes.

The Tenleytown Metro Station is on the Red Line, and some surface bus lines depart from there too. Metro passes are good for the rail and for surface buses. I think that during Welcome Week activities, most new students get introduced to the Metro in small groups.

AU is just minutes away from Georgetown by car or Metro. It’s not in a suburban area.

You can’t get to Georgetown by Metro, only by bus. A lot of the students will use Uber to get to places they can’t easily get to by Metro.

My daughter goes to all parts of DC all the time. The other day she did an errand or two in Georgetown and came right back and thought nothing of it. It’s very easy and fast to get around and I’m pleasantly surprised how often she goes into DC or Bethesda.
