How exactly do colleges evaluate your GPA?

I feel really ignorant when it comes to this. Since different schools use tons of different GPA systems, how do colleges normalize your GPA? Do they weight AP classes? Do they weight your junior year?

The most alarming thing I heard was that regardless of your high school's system they consider an A- to be a 3.7. Is this true?

that's not true

all A's are 4, B's are 3, C's are 2

No, actually, most every college has the same system and an A- is indeed a 3.7. But it doesn't matter because they do that to every applicant. The UC schools omit the freshman year, and they use the same A- = 3.7 system. LISTEN TO AARON FROM NOW ON, MAN.
