Im looking to retake a class that I failed and a GE for the summer session. Im looking at their website right now http://summer.ucsb.edu/public/category/programStream.do?method=load&selectedProgramAreaId=10267&selectedProgramStreamId=16889&leftNav=true and it says that they charge $270 for each unit up to 10 units. What's the cap on the amount of units I can take for summer session? Also, do the classes last for the entire summer as if it were a 4th quarter? I see that they list classes into Sessions A-G but Im not sure how exactly the scheduling works. Is housing required if you're going to take summer sessions? And is it worth it?

The calendar of sessions is at

http://summer.ucsb.edu/static/tiles/iama/calendarDeadlinesStatic.jsp

You can use UCSB housing if you wish (expensive), or you can seek housing elsewhere (e.g., IV). UCSB summer session is substantially cheaper than regular terms, even if you use UCSB’s housing option.

The unit cap is 16 units/session. If you are enrolled in a course whose session overlaps with another (e.g., A overlaps with C), then that course contributes to your unit cap for all overlapping sessions. Session C is a 10-week session, so it is like a normal quarter. The other sessions are shorter, between 2.5 to 6 weeks.
