I’m feeling really unsure of one of my essays… PM for suggestions? Idk if I should rewrite and choose another prompt or keep.

98beebee did you read mine?

98beebee: you can pm me if you want. I’ll read over it.

Thank you!!!

I’m sorry for bringing this back up again and this is the last time I will. If I apply as a repeat sophomore will I have to take the SSAT even though I have already have taken the PSAT? Also is anyone else nervous about the amount of 10 graders applying?

^^Seriously, if you really need help, start a new thread or something. I’m sorry, but you keep thread jacking this thread with that topic! Honestly, please be polite. I started this thread to be about essays, not about the SSATs/PSAT.

Happy New Year!
I finished my essays, just revising thoroughly now.
I’ve been going back and forth between different prompts though.
and ^98beebee, you can PM me!

Ivyguy6: I’m going to pm you

I tried to say I was sorry in the most polite way I could. I’m not a fan of people jacking other people’s threads either, but I have previously tried to start a thread on those subjects but didn’t receive any help. I saw that your thread was contained with people that were willing to answers others questions, and I didn’t think it would be a big deal since we’re all applying to boarding schools and needed help along the way with the application process. But I promise I will not post anything other than essay topics in this thread.

i think there’s on like “Applicants 2012” and that’s a pretty general thread

Which essays do you guys think are the hardest? I’m having the most trouble trying to write the SPS essays.

Yes, SPS essays are definitely the hardest. The moral courage one…

Thank you, ivyguy.

I honestly hate the Andover ones. They just annoy me.

98beebee- I am in total agreement with that statement!

^They seriously suck. The time management and roommate ones, isn’t everyone going to do a variation of the same idea? (cooperation, checklist, timing, blah blah blah). The thing is, I don’t know how to distinguish myself with a blah prompt.

I felt that one was actually the easiest prompt to do. I talked about time management. It certainly does not distinguish myself at all (it’s pretty vanilla). The hardest prompt for me is the one about what I like the most about myself. Also, the word counts make me want to scream because I have a hard time writing with a limited space.

I absolutely LOVE the school (I talk almost every day for at least an hour to various people on how amazing the school is), but the prompts really suck.

At one point, I was going to apply to Andover. Initially, I thought that I was going take days to finish it. Surprisingly, it didn’t take me long at all. I actually really liked the essay prompts. It took me a little while to come up with a response to the roommate question, that wasn’t cliche and banal. I eventually came up with something that I thought was relatively original. I eventually decided not to apply to Andover. But I actually enjoyed filling out the application.

Although I’m not applying to Andover anymore, I did see the prompts they gave. I think that Andover wants to see how well you can write with a “blah” prompt, and how you can distinguish your writing from everyone else’s. And they want to know how well you can write with a limit while making it detailed enough, but not going too overboard. They’re prompts are probably meant to be “blah” because they want to see how you put your own spin on your writing. Maybe they’re not looking for originality in your answer. Maybe they chose a prompt with the outcome of most generic answers, but they want to evaluate on how you write and how you put your original spin on it with your writing style. Just a thought, though.

The SPS essays are so hard!

Do you think there is a specific “standard” number of paragraphs for an essay?
I think I heard 5?
I have 3 general paragraphs in one of my essays, do you think that’s fine?? Because I
conveyed all that I have to say, really. I wouldn’t know how to synthesize another two.
It is kind of making me nervous because it doesn’t have a word limit, and I am given
ample room but I don’t really have anything to put in that space!
