Just finished off my freshmen year in college. The trip was about a 4 hour drive from home. Thinking about transferring out and into a top-10 undergraduate business university soon.

I dont get homesick whatsoever, and wouldn't mind going to school, say, in California (I live in NJ). Travel expenses isn't an issue either. But my question is:

How far is too far? Does anyone here go to school on opposite coasts from their house? I'm thinking about Emory and USC, etc. I have a few friends who go to UofArizona and USC, they seem fine with it.
It just looks like a hassle to have to fly to school and back. What about bringing my car?
Does it ever get exhausting/tiresome?

Some input (esp from those who go to school farrr from home) would be cool.

people go too school across country all the time, i go too school 1000+ miles away not across, its still in the same time zone but still far enough.

I’m going to school 8800 miles away from home! (you can use WolframAlpha to calculate. type “city A to city B”)

i’m moving from Florida to Upstate New York and my friends (now in their second year of college) had no problem moving from Florida to New York, DC and Mass. ect

I don’t think there is such thing as too far. The only thing you’ll have to get used to is being on your own. If you get really sick or get into legal trouble, it will be difficult to run behind mommy and daddy, or even your aunt or uncle.

I’m from NJ and go to USC actually, lol. Yes, it can get a bit tiring and can be a bit of a hassle. Some people love being really far away, some don’t. Though one thing I wish I could do was to go home randomly on a weekend. But other than that, it’s really not that much different than being close to home cause if you live on campus, it’s not like you go home everyday.

I am from Europe and I am doing fine in college in the US. Moving in and out is a bit of a hassle because I can only move with 2 suitcases. I don’t have a car, or anything else that doesn’t fit into a suitcase or a storage box for that matter.

Moving so far away for college made it very clear to me that I am living on my own now. My parents cannot assist me with anything but remote moral support and I cannot move my stuff back home over the summer.

I’m an hour away from home and I can’t stand it. It’s one of the reasons why I chose to do my internship this summer 7 hours from home. My dad is coming at the end of the month for a few days, but I’ll get to show him around and do stuff, unlike when they come to school and they just want to sit around all weekend and it bores me.

I can’t wait to graduate and move to one of the coasts, or at least a day of driving away. Getting randomly dropped in on is not cool.

Too far is probably when you feel out of place, high insecurity etc… Too close is when your unwantly suspecting you could possibly run into a relative at any time, whether on your school campus, mall etc…, and maybe prone to high curousity.
