Specifically, I need to get from 3458 GGBL to 229 DENN at 12:00pm. The only way to take math 156 and engr 100 section 600 at the same time is to have engr 100 discussion and math 156 back to back on a wednesday. I know that classes really start 10 minutes after the official time so if I can get between these two buildings in 10 minutes I'll be fine.

No chance of doing that.

Sorry, that just isn’t possible…the buses only come every 10 minutes during the day, so you might not even get onto the bus for 10 minutes. After you are on, it is at least 10 minutes to the CC Little stop where you would get off for math class. You need at least 30 minutes in between classes to be able to go from North to Central.

No way. You can make the trip in much, much less than that. From CC Little to North Campus I averaged about 15-18 minutes last year. Often I made it in less. Also, the buses are much faster than every 10 minutes during the weekday. You will rarely wait for more than 4-5 minutes for a bus. There’s also options - you can take Commuter and Northwood Express as well, though these are somewhat slower.

Dennison is really close to CC Little, so you’ll take under a minute walking from there to CC Little. GG Brown is a bit of a distance from the Pierpont bus stops, so you’ll have at least a 2-3 minute walk. The bus ride itself is a bit under 10 minutes, so you won’t make it in time for class. You’ll be about 5 minutes late, sometimes less, sometimes more. You can leave your engin discussion early, if you’re okay with doing that.

Thanks Tetrahedron. Do you think the professor will be mad if I leave early? I don’t want to cause a scene or anything.

What I meant is that you should have at least 30 minutes in between classes to get from North to Central even if the actual trip takes less time than that. You really don’t want to be leaving class early or arriving late, especially in a discussion…Engin 100 discussions usually only have about 25 people in them and it is really obvious and rude to the professor if you leave early.

Ugh… Then what do I do? I can’t be the only person that wants to take these two classes.

What if he had a bike?

Still wouldn’t be feasible. All advisors tell us not to take back to back classes on North and Central because it simply isn’t possible. You need to change your schedule around.

I don’t agree at all. This is college. No one cares if you leave early, show up late, whatever. You are definitely not going to be the first person the professor’s ever seen in that situation. If you don’t want to change your schedule, then don’t. Swithc off days when you leave early and arrive late. Talk to your profs as well - they will understand. This isn’t high school, and the profs aren’t some kind of sadistic strict disciplinarians who can’t wait to attack you for taking back to back classes.

Discussion classes usually have points for attendance and tardiness. And if you’re late every single class, well firstly it creates a bad impression on your professors and fellow students. And you could miss out on important info. Besides the bus ride being 10+ minutes plus the walking time of 5 minutes plus the waiting time which adds up to quite a bit.

You could try it for the first week or something, when you can change classes at will. See how it goes.

No, they don’t. Where are you coming up with this stuff? I can tell you with total certainty that there are not any engineering discussion sessions with points for attendance and tardiness. That would be absolutely and totally ridiculous.

Also, the OP will be leaving engin 100 discussion early - not coming in late. That’s rather different. He certainly won’t be interrupting class while leaving, and he’ll also get all the important announcements at the beginning of the class.

Discussion classes in general do, perhaps not them engineering ones. Still everything else sticks and he would be interrupting the class if he leaves before the end. And has the possibility of missing said important announcements if he misses the beginning of the next classes.

He should try it out during the first week and if it doesn’t work, well he could change his schedule. Although creating a bad impression by coming in late/leaving early on your first day, well that’s his choice.

you don’t want to do this all the time. you need 30 minutes in between classes on central and north. sign up for another section, or get on the waitlist, they will let you in the class.
