North to Central Campus

So... I have a back to back, one class on north campus and the other on central campus (engr 101 and calc). I'm assuming this is a huge problem but would there be any way to deal with it? Changing classes is an option but not so many are available at this point. Thanks!

That would be tough even with the Michigan time.

Would ENGR100 better fit your schedule?

Michigan needs to build a bullet train from North Campus to Central in 1 minute! As it stands though, I do not think it is possible to make it from a class in North Campus to a class in Central Campus in under 20 minutes, and that is assuming you haul @ss and have some luck on your side with the buses.

When I went to Michigan a million years ago, North Campus classes were on the half hour (e.g. 1:30) so it was easier to combine North and Central classes. Wonder why they stopped doing that. Of course I think only the Music School was there at that time.

That seems like it would be annoying because it would be impossible to schedule back to back classes on North as most are an hour and a half.

I’m most annoyed by classes which don’t start at the normal 1.5 hour intervals. 9, 10:30, 12, 1:30, 3, 4:30. Always annoyed me when a class didn’t start at one of those times.

^It really just depends on where in the school you’re taking the class. Ross classes are all at one of 8:30, 10, 11:30, 1, 2:30, 4. There’s not really a school wide standard.

I don’t think there is a standard schedule with 1.5hr intervals. It is all depending on the classes. My D has both engineering and non-engineering classes started at 00 or 30 that are 1 to 1.5 hour long.

My D has 40 mins between her class on north campus and one on central, so one is on the 30 and the other on the hour.

Seems like someone should write an app for that: indicate classes of interest and their location; have app find time/path minimization.

Those 1 hour classes would just be discussions that are on Fridays most likely. There are some classes that run off schedule but it’s very few. I can’t recall any engineering classes that are 1 hour, 90%+ of them will be 1.5 hours. Discussions are weird but they’re usually not a crucial part of the class, much fewer people go to those. It’s more like a 3 credit class where they throw an office hour on the schedule to increase tuition. Most of the regular classes will be Monday/Wednesday or Tuesday/Thursday and the discussions are usually on Friday but this pattern is not always followed, specifically in very large classes (like EECS 280, where discussions could be on any day).

Yeah, I highly suggest that you change your schedule to give you at least half an hour (so, 40 minutes with Michigan time) between classes on central and north. And by “highly suggest,” I mean that you will have to change it unless you’re okay with walking in late to your calc lecture every day!

you should really consider rescheduling your classes. Check out the various ENGR100 classes too as I suggested above. Nevertheless, I know a student always miss the Calc class and just keep up with the online resources (as it was too early for him). If you do want to attend both classes, you may need to make some arrangement with Blue Cab. ;)
