how fierce is the competition for valedictorian at your school?

at my school its pretty competitive, and the rankings change constantly...this puts a lot of pressure on the students...i'm a sophomore so this hasn't been an issue, but that position seems to be all the graduating class this year is talking about...

It's fierce only because my school is like impossible so everyone actually has a chance. This graduating class, not one person has a 4.0 unweighted GPA, but the top 5 have over a 5.0 weighted GPA. Confuses me greatly but that's okay :D.

at my school, we dont actually get rankings til senior year but everyone in my class pretty much already knows who the top ten to fifteenish are. the competition is starting to get pretty intense and were only sophomores

my school is ridiculous... I beleive the valedictorian at my school took 9 or 10 APs outside of school to claim the number 1 spot... to be in the top 10 you need a good 16 APs with straight As

Our val is the only one who cares about being val. I'm really good friends with #2 and #4, and both have stated that they have absolutely no desire to be val, because there's way too much pressure. And because the poor girl who is #1 is so stressed out about it and has worked so hard for it that they'd hate to take it away from her.

Well, at my school, no one cared until this year (junior year.) Everyone is constantly asking "what's your class rank?" And people have memorized the order of the top 20 people in our class :)

At my old school, there were about 8 valedictorians. But the thing is that some of them took mostly college prep classes and very few AP's and Honors.

It's very intense at my school, I am currently tied with a few others for the spot, and it requires A LOT of effort.

Umm.... at the end of this year we will probably have 1/8 of the school tied for first. With a 5.0 weighted 4.0 unweighted GPA. (Out of a possible 5.0/4.0)

Half the people at my school cry themselves to sleep everyday

the other half just cries during the day

There are about 40 people tied for first in my school (we're sophmores), I, sadly, am not one of them, and I have a 4.0/4.5 W

We don't have weighted GPAs, so as juniors there's like 7 people in first with 4.0s. I'm one of them, but I don't care about being val and don't expect to be once my classes get tougher.

Theres quite a bit of competition. Kids try to take classes that are only weighted so their gpa goes up. Some kids took geo in middle school and was lowering their gpa, so they were trying t oget it removed from their transcript (they got an A). I got my transcript and was ranked 7 had all A's with two AP's soph year. I saw a kids who also had two ap's and same grades but ranked 4th. I was confused until i saw i did math in middle school, so i got penalized cos i took extra classes. Whatever i think i am ranked 4th now. #1 and #2 will be taking 15 ap's by end of snr year. I will be taking 13.

There's this one kid in my class who's been taking special math courses at a community college (all weighted as AP) since sophomore year, and also skipped 2 years of science to go straight into AP. So everyone else has pretty much given up on the number one spot, which is kind of a relief.

However, that makes the competition for #2 even greater among the top ten or so of us. I'd be happy to be in the top 5.

it's pretty much clear cut at my school, basically because the top two have been battling it out since freshman year and no one really has a chance at robbing #1 because she's taking two P/F classes.

Not so much the valedictorianship, but top 10 and the salutatorianship. The girl in first in unbeatable at this point in senior year. There are at least 10 kids that'll have averages above 100 by the time grades are frozen. My rank as 2nd is in jeopardy. :[

yeah, its been universally acknowledged that the current Val will remain Val, and its only junior year lol. But i guess their is competition, but only within the top 20, but i guess nobody cares as long as they stay in the top 20.

We elect our valedictorian.

We have about 10 vals, so the competition is not stiff at all.

We dont have weighted grades, so all the "class taking politics" is moot. Just highest GPA = less stress.
