I am a community college student in NJ who has been getting emails from Tulane asking me to apply there. They agree to waive my application fee, essay, and will give me a decision in a week plus scholarship consideration. I know their tuition is sky-high but how much do you think I would get out of them?

I understand that lots of emails go out to students but it was specifically for phi theta kappa members. If I have to pay 50 k for tuition then there is no point of me for even applying. I don’t want to waste money sending out transcripts and sat scores.

Given the overenrollment of the last 2 classes admitted (incoming freshman and rising sophomores) I am glad to hear that they still have room for some upperclassmen. At nost colleges, the scholarship $ for transfers isn’t as generous as incoming freshmen, but I don’t know the specifics wrt Tulane’s policies. If you are SERIOUS about Tulane, show them interest. Comunicate with the admissions office. Maybe contact a professor in your anticipated major. What is your financial situation? How much money are you hoping to "get out of " a college?

My parents are currently paying for my tuition at the community college. They both make over 100 k combined so I don’t know if I am eligible for financial aid or not. They do NOT want me to take out a loan. If I do go to Tulane then they don’t want to pay more than 25 k including room and board if possible.

What is interesting about what I said (getting money out of a college)? I simply meant how much grants, scholarships can I get.

How generous is Tulane? How much in grants/scholarships might you be considered for? Tulane is very generous, but with a family income as high as yours, it won’t likely be in the form of need-based aid, it will be in merit aid.

The phrasiology seemed a little unkind, IMO- What might they offer a student like you vs “what will I get out of them”. Sorry. Just pushed a hot button as an entitled-sounding comment. You probably didnt mean it that way, but thats how it sounded. JMO, FWIW.

***Wait-- clarify please --does this “They both make over 100 k combined” mean they EACH make 100K or their combined income is over 100K? If so, how much over? Any other kids in college now?

My dad makes around 50 k and my mom gets her income from a business in my home country in Asia. Sometimes she makes 100K or more a year alone but there is no proof that she makes that much in here. She still pays taxes though. I have one older brother who also goes to college.

I did NOT mean to be rude at all. Sorry for the choice of words.
