how good do internships look? I'm interning at the U.S. Attorney's Office this summer, and I was told I am the first high school student to intern there... ever. And I'm supposedly working with Sandra Day O'Connor to develop a class in government for high schools. I was just curious if that's like fantastic (i'm going into poli-sci) or just par for the course.

Also, I did a lot of unpaid work at a school. Filed papers and essentially was a bit of a gopher for the Admissions Director at this school(it was a private school, so i was not exactly helping the needy)
And, I was a teacher's assistant for a children's chemistry class and a typing class at that school over the summer.
I was not paid, but would this be considered volunteering, because it was at such a rich private school and does not exactly need the help? If not, how can I make this look as good as possible?

Just in general, will these be/were these good things to do over the summer? Like better than the average Ivy Leaguer?

Well, if you really want to make the most of this, go order the book "Vault Guide to Smoozing", then get to know Sandra Day O'Connor well, then see if she will write you a recommendation when you apply to college.

I've seen many of her interviews and she seems like a really nice, but obviously brilliant, lady. I wouldn't be surprised if a recommendation from her would really help at certain schools--especially if you apply for international relations programs at places like Georgetown or John Hopkins--or for political science at places like Yale, Univ of Virginia, Penn, or Williams and Mary (where she is the chancellor of the college).

Probably wouldn't hurt later having her recommendation if you apply for law school later at William and Mary or Arizona State (where the law school is named after her).

I plan to get into an internship in a Manhattan architecture firm. Hopefully the fact that it I'm going for architecture (and that its Manhattan) will woo the admissions officers. How do internships look?

how do you even get internships like that? Did you just contact them and they agreed? Aren't their qualifications that you need to have? I have been wanting to get an internship somewhere, but it seems so hard! Any advice? (btw im sort of hijacking this thread)

^^ Through your school maybe??
Or go to your local _________ (fill in the blank based on what you're interested in) and ask if they need any volunteers....
Or google relevant internships and research based on your interests.
