How good do you need to be to get into Cornell's orchestra?

I'd specifically like to know about the violin. During high school, I made it into the 2nd violin section for All-state, but I'm not sure if that's good enough? Also, is the orchestra normally only for people who are quite committed to their instrument and to music? Because I've been involved with the violin for a long time, both competitively and also just for fun, but it's not a major part of my life.

D’s level of playing sounds to be about yours. She felt the commitment for the university orchestra was too much for her. Fortunately for her, she found kids on her floor who were interested in playing for the enjoyment of it. She would practice solo 2-3 x week - very good stress reliever for her - and played with friends 1-2x week.

i agree with woody…

you will find too many overachievers in most university clubs…
