I think I have a decent shot at getting in. My stats are a bit above average for HSS (after I retake the SAT), though my EC is weak. I'm looking to do Economics w/ a Psychology minor. I know CMU's good for ComSci & Engineering, but what about the HSS majors? Most importantly, what are the job prospects?

How is HSS life in general (particularly with my chosen major)? I'm guessing it'll be less stressful than other CMU colleges and the notorious male/female ratio would be less existant.

Finally...how's the finaid? This is def the biggest problem, though I'm fairly certain my EFC will be very low (income's around 40k).

Well heres the thing. Econ here is good bc it focuses heavily on quantitative analysis. I dont know how other school’s econ program works but as econ major at cmu, you will need a strong background in math to survive. I heard it wasnt too hard (but then again concept of hard in cmu is skewed bc of f#@%^ computer science classes offered here) but i hear very good things from upperclassmen who are doing econ/stats program. According to them, they decided not to do full econ bc it was too difficult and way too much math. I only heard this from selected individuals so i can’t say for sure.

As econ major at cmu, however, u get the privilege of getting into every econ classes (very high in demand) first. if u also do a bit of computer science stuff here, u will be a very attractive candidate for wall st/banks/finance companies etc.

also Stephen Klepper is the MAN OF ECON. We call his principle of econ 73-100 Kleppernomics bc hes that awesome
