How good is the Music program at FSU? Also, please chance me?

So I'm torn between choosing FSU or UM for studying music. I know that both schools have very good Music Composition programs but just how good is FSU? I know that they have a Commercial Music program. I might choose FSU because it's a lot cheaper than UM.

I just want to know, how good is their Music program in general? Also, is the Commercial Music program good for hopefuls in the music industry?

Could anyone also please chance me? I feel that my application is strong because of my transcript and essay. I also feel that my extracurricular activities will help (I'm a member of like 6 clubs/organizations at my school and I hold two VP positions and one President position in them).

What really worries me is my SAT score. The first time I took it, I did it without studying to see how I would do. I got a 1720/2400 (1080/1600). I put on my application that I'm going to retake it in November to raise my score.

So this is basically a few things about my transcript and scores...

Weighted GPA: 4.075
Unweighted GPA: 3.750
Class Percentile: 90%
May 2010 SAT score: 1720/2400 (1080/1600)

What are my chances? Thanks!

youre about mediocre for fsu…correct me if im wrong…cuz i might be…but if ur extracurriculars are good, essay is decent, then you may be accepted…only time can tell for sure

Isn’t the music program a completely separate application? I may be wrong on that, but I thought it was similar to the film school in that respect.

If not, retake the SAT and give the ACT a try. I think with a good essay you’ll be admitted, but with a higher test score, you’re in with no problem.

Good Luck. I assume you’ve already applied?

From the [College of Music](Florida State University College of Music) webpage:

FSU’s music programs are extremely competitive. Based on what I’ve heard over the years it is the best program in Florida and the southeast at a minimum.

In addition to the general university academic requirements you must [audition for admission to the College of Music and submit a supplemental application.](http://www.music.fsu.edu/Admissions/Frequently-Asked-Questions)

Hope this helps.

If you audition and are accepted to the College of Music, you have high enough scores that you would gain admission to FSU. You have to apply to both. And with enough talent, you can have SAT scores is the bottom 25%.

If you can get merit aid or financial aid to bring the cost of tuition/room/board at UM down to equal or below that of FSU and it is where you see yourself, go for it. If not, I suggest FSU. You will get a great music education, a great general education. And I must tell you that your scores are low for UM as well looking at CR and M. But again, if it is the audition that gets you in, then…like athletes…they will overlook that you are not in the middle 50% of SAT scores.

Like someone else said, FSU has the best music program around; It is highly competitive, people who got accepted don’t fool around.
