how good is university of vermont with giving out money?

I was accepted to UVM arts and sciences the other day. I didn't get a merit scholarship, and the out of state cost is absolutely ridiculous (about 40k). my family is more or less middle class, and we don't really qualify for need based financial aid, but there is no way in hell we can afford that (we have various debts and expenses, i'm not going to get into details haha). are they good about giving money to families who call and explain their situation?

I saw a reply on another thread that indicated merit scholarship notices may still be mailed around regular decision time and weren’t included in the admission decision letters so you still may receive an award down the road.

You will get $2k max.
UVM is notorious for NOT giving OOS folks any aid.
Sorry.

you can try explaining your family situation. i explained my family’s difficulty with finances and i got my acceptance fees waived

I am out of state and not at the top of class or sat but I was surprised they offered me 5,000 a year I know it is not alot but I didn’t except to get anything or even get in. I am really going to consider this school.

I have to disagree with Radannie on this. My son is an out of stater and receives well in excess of the figure mentioned by ctmom123. One piece of the package is a grant/scholarship specifically for NH students at UVM. Sometimes being poor is ok!!
