Now that my first semester of college is almost done I have to say I am really disappointed with the math department at my school. I only have one more calculus class to take but I do not want to take it at my school so I plan on taking it over summer. So here is my question.
Are you happy with your schools math department?
And if you go to school in socal and you like your universities math department where do you go?

I like that the math department at my school has so many options and classes and doesn’t restrict them (anyone can take any class - Freshmen can take PHD level classes if they want). Instructors are a mixed bag. Bureaucracy as always sucks.

Not in SoCal, University of Michigan. But don’t judge your math department solely on one class.

The reason I don’t like my math department is because the exams and quizzes are not made by the professors themselves. Some department chair makes all the tests and he also gives them a grading rubric so specific that he tells them what can be given as half credit no credit etc. And the professors do not even get to see the exams until the week of
Thanks for your input though
