How hard and expensive to get to San Francisco?

So I’m a freshman this fall and am wondering how much is it to get to SanFran through public transportation. I hear the trip is a little over 2 hours so I was planning visiting maybe once or twice a month to see some high school friends attending SFState. Also how often do you Davis students(with or without cars) drop by the city too?

My son travels to/from the Bay area via Amtrak from the train station in Davis. Cheap and convenient. It gets you to Berkeley fine, but then you will need to get a bus (?) from the Amtrak station to the City.

Or, you can then transfer to a BART (bay area rapid transit) train into the city. BART makes several station stops throughout S.F. and then you can get to additional points via Cable Car if you need to. I’m not sure what the total tab will run but, depending on your definition of expensive, I’d say it would not be considered cheap…

whats the name of the bus that goes b/w davis and berkeley? it’s free, and you can take that bus to berkeley, then walk to the bart station in berkeley and go to one of the 5 stops in SF

Berkeley Bus is $9.75
runs M-F

if you cant make the bus, amtrak is $20

Is that R/T? I’m surprised they don’t run on weekends. If that is R/T, that’s very reasonable. Sorry, I don’t know the bus name, unless it is Greyhound by chance?

no itz not roundtrip

I’ve taken the Amtrak from Davis to the Ferry Building / Union Square in SF. The fare one way is $24. From SF Ferry Building, I took a shuttle across the Bay Bridge to the Emeryville terminal and hopped on the train to Davis. The way home was the same, with the shuttle from Emeryville to the city made several stops: Ferry Building, Union Square, CalTrain, among other destinations.

I’m not sure if its 2hours… I drive to and from sf/davis all the time… usually takes me 1hr if no traffic problems.

Try this!

Take shuttle to berkeley for about ~$10, then bart over from berkeley to sf for ~$4. $14 each way, should be about 2 hour commute.
Or… amtrak… which is the much more expensive alternative.
Oh and you can also get rides from friends… if you meet any from San Francisco area. I’m from San Fran, and I was a freshman last year… uh… there are a lot of pplz from san fran at Davis. GLuck!

and… maybe zimride (=
