Hey guys! Looking for a little bit of advice here.
I’m an above average student at my school and my current weighted GPA is a 4.2. I’m about to be a senior in high school and I’m deciding my schedule. I know that it’s important to take challenging classes all throughout high school but I wasn’t sure if my schedule is rigorous enough. Schools I want to get into are SUNY Binghamton and SUNY Stonybrook and maybe NJIT’s honors college.
By the way my school doesn’t allow us to take AP’s till junior year.
Freshman year:
Honors geometry with trig
Honors English 9
Honors Biology
U.S. History I
Spanish 3
and some electives…
Sophomore year:
Algebra 2 (dropped honors because it was too hard)
Honors American Lit
Honors Chemistry
Honors World History
Spanish 4
and some electives…
Junior year:
Precalculus with trig
AP English I
AP Bio
Honors US History II
Spanish 5
and some electives
Senior year: (what I’m planning)
Honors Calc
Physics
Honors Anatomy and Physiology
AP English II
AP Psych
Honors Philosophy
Is my senior year schedule good enough?
Thanks!
In addition, I do have a part time job and a lot of extracurriculars. I’m the president of two clubs.
Your senior year schedule does look rigorous to me- However, what matters is how your GC (guidance counselor) will rank it on the school report. Basically, how does it compare to the rest of the students at your school? That’s what colleges will look at in terms of checking “rigor.”
there’s definitely plenty of people who are taking more difficult classes than me but there are also a lot more people taking less. thanks for your response!
Your schedule looks perfectly fine to me. It looks very rigorous and also like something you’ll be able to handle based on what you’ve taken in the past. Best of luck!
thanks os much for your help!
It’s fine to me. Do you plan on going into the science field? Two science classes seems unnecessary.
yeah I do plan on doing something in the medical field
Perhaps you should take the AP classes in science instead
I would recommend replacing A&P with AP chemistry, unless you’re planning to get into a nursing program.
Other than that, your schedule looks great.
Perhaps add suny Geneseo and, after running the NPC’s to see if it’d be affordable (if your family makes 100-125k or less it’s likely), Muhlenberg, Dickinson, Skidmore, Marist, Hobart and William Smith, St Lawrence.
