how hard is it for out of state students...?

I really really really really really really really really really really want to go to U of Mich because when I visited it... it was really really awesome and I just basically like the whole school....... However I don't think my grades would allow me to attend :( Because I messed up freshmen year with a 2.x GPA..... I managed to bring up to 3.2 then eventually to 4.4 at the end of junior year... DO I HAVE NO CHANCE AT ALL?? Given that my SAT SCORE IS 2100+ ... and SATII scores are 700+...... Oh and someone on this board told me to have ECS that are more worthy rather than having tons... So I cut down on my ECS to 5 long things.....

Do I really have no chance at all??? I heard U of Mich is rolling admission and if it is so... when I apply for the school.... Will they judge me just based on freshmen, sophomore,jr year grades? Because I am taking 5 APS next SR year and I will work 100% to get all As.... So... do the admissions officer take your SR grades to consideration even though its rolling admission?

for the 10 millionth time, UM does NOT count freshman year. So recalculate your UNWEIGHTED GPA for your middle two years. Otherwise you sound fine. Put some effort in the essays, turn the your app in as early as possible, and make sure you do well for the meantime in Sen yr...you can then send in your transcript to show em your grades are on the rise and better than before.

Hi intotherain,

I'm going to be a freshman at the University of Michigan this fall so I'm kind of used to how this whole application business works since I went through it this year.

When you apply to U of M, the adcom will initially only evaluate your sophomore and junior year grades. There is an area on the application that asks what classes you'll be taking during your senior year as well as their level of difficulty. However, if they have reservations about your application, they may decide to defer their decision to a later date (usually after the first semester is complete). If this happens, they may ask to see your senior year grades so far to aid them in a decision, and even if they don't ask, it's a good idea to send in your grades anyway. Also, if you are admitted and decide to attend, you must send in your final high school transcript at the end of the school year with all of your senior year grades on it to them.

In my case, I was admitted before my first semester of senior year was complete so they made a decision on me with just the grades from my sophomore and junior years of high school. However, my counselor had to send them another copy of my transcript at the end of this year so that they could make sure that I didn't become a slacker after my admission.

what are the chances that they push me back to be evaluated for a later date??

intotherain,

Only an admissions officer would be able to answer that, and no one that posts on this board is one of them. Sorry. :(

ah :(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(
